Watch: May 2010 on TED talks: Craig Venter unveils "synthetic life"

So Man has become a God and made for himself his own lifeforms. Well, atleast this Man:

In 2001, Craig Venter made headlines for sequencing the human genome. In 2003, he started mapping the ocean's biodiversity. And now, in 2010, he's created the first synthetic lifeforms -- microorganisms that can produce alternative fuels.

Didn't they make this from pre existing DNA, then added a bunch of random chemicals in, instead of making it from scratch, via PAH or amino acids? They couldn’t have created life from scratch as we do not know what the origin of life is?

They basically used a computer to build a genome, then putting that nucleus into an empty bacteria cell and put it to life, so it started replicating itself. There are several levels of code into this DNA, among other things they have encoded the names of many of the contributors, four quotations and even a short description on how to decode the rest of the genome, and all this in order to show how this is not regular DNA, but synthetic DNA made entirely by Man and his Machine.
