This would be a compelling argument if black Americans represented a much larger portion of the US population. Instead, blacks equate to 13% of the total US population while whites are more around 75% of the total US population.

I donno about statistics and all this. But I'm black and I grew up in east oakland which is a horrible place and I studied and chose to use my brain instead of doing stupid crap and now I make close to 200k a year (not bragging or anything) and I'm only in my 20's. I don't think it has to do with the color of your skin who makes more money, it has to do with motivation. I hate to say it but where I grew up a lot of people just don't have any motivation to change themselves, they choose to stay in the "hood" and drug deal and do stupid stuff...etc..etc. But on the other hand I know a lot of of guys like me who got out of there and have great lives now.

Ok that makes sense, but I can see ton of reasons why. One big one that I personally have seen with my life is if both parents do not work and both do not make well above min wage there is no savings.

I been a single income family my whole life and it wasn't until I was in my 40s that I stopped living pay day to pay day, and now at 50 I'm doing well, but it was a lifelong climb to get here.

Just use my income (a white man) to compare to Lil Wyte's for the entire study.

It would look very different.

I have to agree that a "study" like this is designed to stir-up racial tension between whites and blacks. There are many white people that have achieved success through hard work and determination, as well as many black people that have achieved the same. A study like this gives those who don't work hard and aren't motivated an excuse to blame somebody else.

Many people across the world are finding it tough to make ends meet. Race, religion, ethnicity or belief system does not alone determine your potential for success, nor how much you earn.

I usually don't comment much on this board i mainly just read the posts but I have to say that most of the replies on this forum are downright IGNORANT. Most of you have ZERO idea about what it takes to be a black family in the US but you talk as if you have a PhD in "The Black Family Unit". You have no idea how hard it is to obtain credit as a black person. My position allows for me to see the disparities mentioned. I have personally seen blacks with the same financial backgrounds as whites get turned down for loans or lines of credit that their white counterparts have no problem in obtaining. Why does this happen? Your guess is as good as mine but it is a sorry but true fact! The problem with most whites is that even when presented with facts you still believe whatever it is you want to even if it goes against the facts presented. Kinda like religion in that aspect! A very high percentage of blacks are born into poverty or very low-income situations without the support or financial assistance of their white peers parents and grandparents. Blacks do not receive the same education as whites as their schools are no where near as equipped as predominately white school systems. This in turn leads to a lower earning potential when entering the workforce. I think most of you need to really step back and accept these facts as what they are: FACTS. Then we can decide as to how we need to proceed to close this disparity. BTW, blacks do not want to look rich! That was one of the most asinine statements I think I read, among others.

Be advised, I'm about to disassemble your entire post! ready?

Getting denied for a credit card will never prevent you from saving money! Quite the contrary, it will prevent you from spending money you may not have! Most jobs can be obtained with no inquiry made of your credit score!

Being born into poverty has motivated some of the world richest people to amass their fortunes, so their family will never have to experience the hardships they themselves had to endure.

(Today with the social welfare systems, being poor sucks a lot less than it did 50 years ago.) So spare us that fraudulent argument. Back in the 30s if you didn't work, you didn't eat...

Inner city school systems spend more money per student than higher achieving rural districts, thousands of dollars more per student! The government will also give you a voucher in some citys to send your kids to private schools if your income is below a certain threshold. Even still it is not like it is impossible to get a decent education no matter what school you attend. You get out of it what you put into it! This I know well as a fact, I myself attended an inner city high school that was one of the lowest preforming schools in the state of Ohio and was 48% white. And if all else fails you can pick up and move somewhere with better schools! This is America after all not East Germany!

And as for looking rich. Do some research on how much jewelry was purchased with FEMA cards that were handed out in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina...

Media reporting at its finest. It is NOW only 5% when fifty years ago it was much higher. The media is failing to report a closing gap. I think they are being paid to report the numbers in this way in order to give blacks more government sponsored incentives like free college, free homes, and free automobiles. Just wait to see if I am correct in my logic.

OK here it is in a nutshell...

The reason for blacks being poor and less affluent is because they vote for Democrats who keep them on the political plantation. They join up in worthless organizations such as ACORN, Jessie Jackson, etc. They look for and take government welfare and handouts. And they use a lot of drugs and get women pregnant and refuse to take care of the children they bring into the world. That's why.

Suggestion if you are one of these people. Think for yourself. Work hard for yourself. Take care of family. Get off of drugs. Refuse government handouts. Stay away from scam organizations like ACORN, Jessie Jackson, etc. And please, stop getting on the plantation bus for Democrats, who don't care about you at all.

Whites are not richer because they are white, but because most choose to think for themselves, go for their dreams, and shun con men, and don't vote for commie socialist parties like the Democrat Party. Most are independent minded, want small limited government, and tend to take care of their offspring, even if they are unmarried.

But it's not a white thing, it's a learned thing. Blacks have been trained to stay on the political and social plantation, and choose to play the poor poor victim.

Ok how many people here are black? ok and how many people grew up in a black area of town? ok So who here really knows what they are talking about....yeah I thought so.

The schools we have a joke and we have criminals camping right outside our houses. That crap would NEVER happen in a white neighborhood? They would never let a local drug cartel setup shop in front of their house or let decentralized terrorists/gang recruiters brainwash and condition them with brides of money, cars, drugs and women. Why is it like that? Because the police let it be like that.

You know what? I was in a few affluent suburbs. One think was VERY clear.
If you don't look rich like them(clothes etc) or at least drive a good car you will get ALOT of police attention. They just plain don't let thier community get overrun with criminal leeches.

In the 'hood its a f---in joke. The police don't care, the city council doesn't care (unless they start getting media attention and risk losing votes then they'll care) the community activists groups and churches are powerless against the drug cartels and crime organizations that pretty much run that area. All they can do is watch yet another would-be doctor young man turned drug running robot foot soldier get his brains blown out over a drug deal that the local crime syndicate is profiting from. Its insane and would never happen in a white neighborhood.

They just keep a cap on the mayhem so it doesn't spill over in thier part of town. Racist externalism and institutionizes racist policies kill entire communities with ease. Combine that with an already anti-african anti-mexican society with passively ignoring apologistic racism and you have what we have now.

Problem is we don't have any political(enough votes) power to make politicians really do anything about it or enough tax returns (from rent etc) to make the city give a crap. So you see this crazy situation for years on end. The people that can actually do any don't care. They let it happen.

Why do all white people think most black people even know who acorn or jesse jackson is? Why do they think we even care what they think?

I never heard of acorn until about 2 1/2 years ago on the news. I used to see jesse jackson on CNN as a corespondent sometimes.

What do you European Americans think of "Redlining" and racist credit, mortgage, insurance and loan policies? Do you think this may slow the growth of the black middle class?

And why do think most of us live in inner cities? Most american africans live in the south.

I have read this thread with disappointment.

It really further propagates More stereo typical bantering in a blatant attempt to categorically generalize, separate and denigrate people by skin color.

What we have in the US is a nation of haves and have nots.

Our entire society here in the US is a result of decades of institutionalized racism and discrimination, based upon skin color.

If you are white you are alright and if your are brown stick around, but if you are Black , GO BACK !

All kidding aside but this is why we see the statistics as posted by the OP.

And if you don't believe a word of what I am saying then look at the correlation of very similar statistics amongst the original American people, and minority , The Native Americans.

The OTHER "invisible" Minority.

The Native Americans have even worse economic statistics due to their being completely ostracized by American society and resultingly are even categorically speaking, worse off financially today than even Blacks are.

This is indicative of the long term impacts of a racially segregated society.

The key is looking at our society and it's history.
A poster here is quoted as saying that he didn't own slaves or partake in segregation.

Yes, we are well aware of this fact and neither did I but we need to understand that White Ruled Society certainly DID !

One needs to look at the history of the Armed Forces and how they too were, as American society categorically did, divided by race.

Different neighborhoods, housing and EDUCATION.

After WWII, the Black soldiers who had fought in the war were very pissed off to find that while fighting for ALL American's freedoms in WWII, or so they were told, they were still a Second Class citizen, in that they couldn't get a job, couldn't enroll in a college, were forced to riding on the back of the bus, couldn't even get a sandwich at a restaurant, upon returning home from the war, in what was thought was their own home, and for whom they were risking their lives, the United States of America.

Much of what we are seeing today amongst people of color as far as economics are concerned are the cumulative years of poverty and lack of education, financial or otherwise. Amongst Blacks AND Native Americans.

Very similar I might add to the statistics amongst Lottery winners today whom statistically have a very high probability of being completely insolvent within 5-10 years of having won their windfall earnings.

Is this statistic due to them being Black ?

No, this statistic in that there are considerably more White lottery winners nationwide than Blacks or Native Americans is moreso likely attributed to lack of education and/or financial knowledge and how to manage their earnings.

Plain and Simple.

There have always been gaps and inequalities in pay that can be easily seen when broken down by race or gender. Contrary to what people may think, having Obama as president didn't suddenly eliminated discrimination from the States.

Such disparities get worse during economic struggles, when jobs are at stake.

There was one point where I read that more than half the formerly employed Black males in New York were unemployed and for long periods of time during the job crisis. It was exceptionally high in regards to their racial counterparts in that area.

Throughout the employment crisis this has become a stark reality. The people at one of my former jobs when I worked for the State would often joke about it.

Hence the expression: "Last hired, first fired".

I look at affirmative action and have to laugh how people complain as to how they are losing jobs to minorities because of it.

If that were the case then we wouldn't have almost twice the unemployment rate amongst Blacks than that of Whites.

My Dad is German, an immigrant from war torn Germany, came over here in the 50's and served in the US Army, 4th Armored Division, with Elvis I might add to go to college on the GI Bill.

Anyhow, him being White, upon leaving the military had privy to civilian government jobs, called civil service.

So upon taking a job at a state unemployment office, he was told by his boss, to NOT provide jobs to Blacks.

My Dad being a foreigner, and half way believing the American BS about liberty and justice for all.....walked out.

Never to return.

I am putting this out there to exemplify of a first hand account of what REALLY goes on here in America and why I and my Dad don't believe half of the BS we are told.

And as to why I am here on ATS.

As George Carlin said:

The reason why they call it the American Dream is that you have to be asleep to believe it.

Plain and Simple.
