(May 14) -- The latest military aircraft to come out of Boeing's secretive Phantom Works research unit is sleek, stealthy and unmanned. Boeing has spent the past two years developing the Phantom Ray, an aerial vehicle that it hopes to market to the U.S. military as a multirole aircraft that could be using for everything from reconnaissance to ground attack. The fighter-sized Phantom Ray was rolled out at a ceremony this week in St. Louis. The question now is, who will buy it?

With a wing span of 50 feet and a length of 36 feet, the Phantom Ray makes for an impressive sized robotic plane. It can fly up to 614 miles per hour at an altitude of 40,000 feet. The company didn't release any cost estimates.

Full story with video

Is this just the beginning of them unveiling a slew of top secret craft? Maybe more to come in the near future.

Thoughts?

When they show the bottom , it looks like a dark triangle...Haven't some people reported seeing dark triangles in the sky....

Maybe these past couple years have been their "beta" testing and now it's ready for production...

But the specs and size do not match the size of a lot of these Black Triangles some people report.

Reports are that some of these Black Triangles are bigger than two football fields - Some as big as a mile long and black the sky out into total darkness.

So I dont think its the same thing.

oh great
just what we need
another drone vehicle
carrying weapons of
mass destruction

the industrial military complex
at it's finest

bankrupting the government
and the tax payers for a war machine

and the US will have to buy it else
Boeing will sell it to our enemies.
Extortion indeed

This is definitely NOT the kind of triangle craft I saw.

But this one is a beautiful machine. I have a feeling this one has been mistaken for a ufo before, but I like this one. I would love to see it in action beyond the little teasing video in the link! Like above my home for instance. (wait, if its above my home and its NOT an airshow, do I really want to see it that badly?)

I saw something similar at Thunder fly over my house.

Look at this one too.

The first word that comes to mind is JUNK.

I can't help it, it's my first impression. I'm growing tired of drones.

But drones are so futuristic. It almost seems we are on the cusp of a future technocracy full of drones and androids and flesh machines all around us! Is it a bad thing or should we embrace it and adapt? What would you like to see more of instead of drones Atlantican?

Yeah but I worry about all them electronics with no pilot to overide.

Look at the problem with Toyota cars and they don't carry missles.

Also remote may be another word for "plausabile deniability" in case of an "accident" The electronics did it!!!

And it probably still needs a team on the ground to monitor so theres not much savings.

The part that worries me the most is....

The Phantom Ray is the first unmanned fighter drone that doesn't need a pilot on the ground controlling it

So who controls it then????? Heres the answer to that... the Phantom Ray is capable of completely autonomous operation without the need for anyone to be at the controls, according to Boeing.

I really hope this doesnt carry Nukes, reminds me of the movie Stealth
