From Eric Dondero:
The Republican Party of Maine held its convention over the weekend. Delegates adopted a hard line platform that adopted many tenets of libertarian beliefs.
From the liberal-leaning blog Maine Politics “Maine Republicans adopt Tea Party platform”:
The document calls for the elimination of the Department of Education and the Federal Reserve, demands an investigation of “collusion between government and industry in the global warming myth,” suggests the adoption of “Austrian Economics,” declares that “‘Freedom of Religion’ does not mean ‘freedom from religion’” (which I guess makes atheism illegal), insists that “healthcare is not a right,” calls for the abrogation of the “UN Treaty on Rights of the Child” and the “Law Of The Sea Treaty” and declares that we must resist “efforts to create a one world government.”

■A declaration of state sovereignty – essentially a complaint that Federalism is dead and state’s rights and responsibilities are being squashed
■A call for the passage of “read the bill” legislation
■Opposition to the fairness doctrine
■Opposition to the Employee Free Choice Act
■Investigation of global warming shenanigans
■Eliminate the Department of Education
■Support for the prohibition of funding for ACORN or organizations like it
■Elimination of motor voter
■Opposition to any and all treaties with the United Nations
■Return to the principles of Austrian economics
■Balance the federal budget and pay off debt
■Audit the Federal Reserve

Official platform of Maine GOP

Prohibit any public funding of advocacy groups such as ACORN, no matter what it or its affiliate organizations rename themselves; New York Communities for Change, New England United for Justice etc.; Conduct thorough investigation of their activities and voter fraud and prosecute violations.

Why did they fail to mention the prohibition of any public funding from multinational corporations or special moneyed interests? It appears they are only interested in restricting public funding from left of center groups that would punish Democrats and not themselves.

Reassert the principle that “Freedom of Religion” does not mean “Freedom from Religion”.

I agree that everyone has a right to their own peaceful religious practices, that being said I do not understand why it must be flaunted in public instead of maintaining it as a personal and moral issue. I, myself, am an Atheist so I would like to ask these Maine Republicans what that would mean for me. Will I be required to partake in religious or spiritual practices that I do not adhere to, or will I be forced to here/see/think in a religious/spiritual manner to please them? I would also like to ask if displaying Atheist billboards or publicly expressing Atheist and non-religious sentiment will be tolerated as an equivalent of pro-religious and Theist sentiment.

Marriage is an institution between a man and a woman.

We have equality under the law which is clearly outlined within the context of the US Constitution. Equality under the law does not permit discrimination against any group or permit any laws that infringe upon equality under the law. Apparently following the constitution is second behind following the bible.

Defeat Cap and Trade, investigate collusion between government and industry in the global warming myth, and prosecute any illegal collusion.

I was watching Glenn Beck the other night, about a week or so back, I don’t know why, but he was mentioning something about a link between ‘cap and trade’, ‘global warming myth’, and the Left. If I am reading this correctly, which I do believe I am, this sounds like a talking points memo pulled from a Glenn Beck script.

Promote energy independence aggressively by removing the obstacles created by government to allow private development of our resources; natural gas, oil, coal, and nuclear power.

I am quite surprised that they adopted this amendment as well, seeing how the offshore oil drilling was permitted by regulations of one’s own business. Halliburton had the same privileges of self regulation of their oil adventures and it has not provided us with great results, IMO.

Espouse and follow the principle: It is immoral to steal the property rightfully earned by one person, and give it to another who has no claim or right to its benefits.

Sounds great to me, so will the ‘fat cats’ hand us back our excess labor and capital that they make their cushy profits from? No? Well I guess we can just avoid that issue, we will only worry about it when it comes to what government deems is your own personal labor. Unless you produce capital on your own, i.e. Individual small business owner, then you are taking the fruits of another person’s labors.

Repeal and prohibit any participation in efforts to create a one world government.

Are they serious? I know this is a conspiracy website and they will probably collect praise from fellow members for this statement but I believe it is insanity to proclaim there is a new world order. This is not to say there is not a fight for a collect organization of the world, but when a political party platform espouses this sort of rhetoric they are using it as a scapegoat to enact fringe policies.

The Tea Party is not your Right or Left movement who are brainwashed into hating each other. This movement is comprised of everyday working people who want to bring about the freedoms that made this country great. This movement will finally drain that swamp in washington which has been selling our soveriegn lands to foriegn nations.

Demographics of Tea Party

Demographically they are representative of Americans. Ideologically they are right of center with very few liberals and overwhelmingly conservative.

Sorry buddy but thats a load of hogwash, had you said the same of the Campaign for Liberty I would agree with everything you said.

The Tea Party is comprised of people who loved George Bush and all the crap he did, they are the neocons who spit on us when we were campaigning for Ron Paul who by the way, tried to warn America about what was coming.

Go to any of the videos from the primary debates and you will see and hear just how “Tea Party” members laughed and mocked him but now they want to be friends and save America…. Its BULLCRAP.

The truth is the G.O.P took over the Tea Party and the Tea Party would love everything Obama has done if it were McCain doing it.

They are nothing but a bunch of hypocrites who only value the liberties of people they agree with.

If this is true, it's another example of the GOP marginalizing itself into obscurity.
While such fringe positions may be popular on ATS, they are NOT with the general public. The tea party will be short lived, it's already splintered into various far right wing factions, and will be absorbed by the GOP.
Bye bye Repubs!

It is quite funny, that even the things you agree with in the party, you find some way to make sure that you discredit it or inform everyone that it could be better.

I understand you refer to yourself as a Liberal, but for a minute stop - just STOP thinking along party lines and recognize yourself as a person.

As far as the Tea Party's beliefs, I can agree with most of them, however I believe religion and marriage are personal things that government should have no say in whatsoever. In fact, marriage should hold no benefits besides the fact of holy matrimony between two people.

While I generally don't agree with your "hate it all regardless" outlook, I can respect that. What I can't respect is that there are still people who would actually believe that there is NOT a New World Order out there and would go so far as to call people crazy in believing in such. Are YOU serious? Have you just ignored all the countless pieces of evidence from politicians and world leaders about a New World Order, or were they just blowing steam? Are countries banding together in these unions just for the sake of banding, or is there something bigger down the road?

Let me guess, Democrat?

While the Tea Party has been hijacked by Republicans, do not sit here and tell me that the people who were there prior to that aren't still fighting into the mix. The original Tea Party members were Libertarian and Constitutionalist, so if that is considered RIGHT WING by you guys, then by golly right wing is the only way to go.

I refuse to believe in anything that will stand against the Constitution and so should you. If you wish for it to be different, then you can leave. Your problem is you define "liberties" as forcing what you feel is right on someone else when in fact "liberty" is the freedom from ALL forced methods or beliefs.

How long have people been saying the Tea Party will be short lived? Oh that's right - since their inception, and they have only gotten stronger since. While the true message of the Tea Party has been dumbed down and obscured by the GOP involvement, do not let it fool you by thinking that the original Tea Party no longer exists because I assure you, it is going quite strong.

Lol, what a load of crap. Pretty much everty single tea partier I know does not have a favorable view of that farce called McCain.

While opinions of Bush vary, there is a pretty solid understanding among partiers that McCain is a liberal just wearing a red coat. Most just want to see someone who actually trusts in the constitution and follows it instead of trying to destroy it. Small government, less taxes, it sounds like a broken record but this is what they believe. Not this takeover and entitlement crap being shoved down our throats along with amnesty to illegals which will only further the problem.

Most of the party platform, probably 80-90% I disagree with. I was only pointing out the ones that represented the height of insanity, in my opinion only. Such as the marriage issue, religion issue, etc…

I understand you refer to yourself as a Liberal, but for a minute stop - just STOP thinking along party lines and recognize yourself as a person.

I am not a Liberal I am a Social Democrat and I do not adhere strictly to party or ideological dogma. I support gun rights, term limits, balanced budgets, etc…

As far as the Tea Party's beliefs, I can agree with most of them, however I believe religion and marriage are personal things that government should have no say in whatsoever. In fact, marriage should hold no benefits besides the fact of holy matrimony between two people.

I am strongly against the Tea Party members, I do not believe they are as portrayed by the media. I could not agree with you more on the marriage and benefits issue.

While I generally don't agree with your "hate it all regardless" outlook, I can respect that. I do not believe I have a “hate it all regardless” outlook, if that is how I portrayed myself then I am unapologetic, I only expressed my personal opinion on certain issues that struck me as moronic. I never stated there is not a NWO or doubted that a foundation for such a future world single governing entity did not exist. What I stated was that they are using a platform of anti-NWO rhetoric to enact fringe policies that would otherwise not be considered needed. Please return to that part of my post and re-read it.

This is a platform for Maine Republican Party it is not a platform for an unorganized partially grassroots political and social movement. I do not understand how you interpreted it as the other way around. My pants are currently up to my waist, no need to lift them up any further, I only posted what is true, interpret it however you want.

No even though I will be voting for one, I wish I could believe even for a second that the Tea Party of today is anything more than a twisted sideshow of neocon brown noses riding atop the backs of real Patriots.

Imagine that the biggest Tea Party Candidate in my home state has endorsements from Dick Cheney and Rudy Giuliani!

I find myself having to express this again and again; I don’t love the current administration especially after nominating a woman who sided with Saudi Arabia over the 9/11 families but the “Tea Party” who purport to be the solution to our problems is full of crap, go back 3 years and you tell me if these Sara Palin worshipers were not out worshipping Dick Cheney and George Bush?

Its nothing more than the G.O.P disguised!

You people have STOCKHOLM SYNDROME.

The only thing you have against the current admin!? Your dear leader is a carbon copy of bush! Lies every time he opens his mouth. Bails out everyone that YOU supposedly think is wrong with the country. Institutes a health care bill that forces YOU into the arms of those dirty corporations.

My God folks, wake the frell up!

This is because the majority are very "anti-socialist". You know, taxing the @% out of us, then handing it to undeserving lowlifes, while also spoon feeding banks and multinationals?

Sir I cant argue with much of what you have said, I agree with most of it.

What I would like to know is how voting for the neocons is any better?

Yes Obama is very like Bush, thats one of my main points in showing that the Tea Party is driven by race and not much anything else.

I dont dispute that they have every right to be mad, what I am questioning is their motives for being mad.

Let me make a prediction, the Tea Party Candidates win and the NWO proceeds full steam ahead and the Tea Party just STFU.

For 8 years these people supported every single crime, every abuse that GWB did and I really dont care about group think, they screwed us and the neocon brown noses loved it, flash forward to the Black man in the White House and they are ready to riot!

You shouldn't be mad that the GOP has adopted a few of the tenants of the tea party.

You should be happy.

Now we just need to work on the rest.

"Audit" the Fed needs to be "Eliminate" the Fed.

"Freedom from religion" needs to be "No State Interference In Religion Period"

"Balance" the federal budget needs to be "Cut the federal budget below current tax revenue levels"

I take exception to what you've written here. Ron Pauls ideas are what started the tea party movement. I am a tea party supporter as are many other Ron Paul supporters. The GOP has tried to usurp the tea party movement,to no avail. The people in the movement are awake to the lie of the two party system. Maybe you should meet some real tea party members and ask them how much they support the GOP!!!

There are two things that have to happen.

The wars and the corruption have to end. We are not the police of the world. If a country attacks us, we declare war on that country. If a group of pyschopaths kill people, we eliminate them. We do not try and control the world. Period.

The corrupt people in government have to be stopped. Both parties need to be broken up.

I think the TOO BIG TO FAIL political parties have become, TOO BIG TO FAIL.

We get some frelling balls and make this happen now. We tell the power elite that they no longer control this frelling country. They have one choice, either stop their crap, or they are STOPPED. Period.

End the expansion of the government and scale it back to their Constitutional Limits. UNDER THE LAW! No more of this bending the meanings and ORIGINAL INTENT to make it say anything they want.

We have politicians blatantly lying to us on television. I mean it is getting frelling ridiculous.

Dodd lied directly about who instituted the parts of the bailouts that allowed the crazy payouts to the execs. We all know it had nothing to do with which party was in power. Either one would have done the same damn thing.

Now we have the legislation going on that they are going to raise the amount of loss a company like BP will have to pay in the future. DOES THIS NOT SOUND FAMILIAR?

If that company and everyone of its execs go broke paying everyone that is harmed by this. SO FRELLING WHAT! Let them go broke. Seize all the assets of the company and all of its executive members.

I want LAW to be our order of the day. Not cronie capitalism, not cronie socialism. We are on the verge of the destruction of everything this country stands for. All for what? To bail out the frelling super rich and their government lackeys?

As for this Cap and TAX crap they are pandering. What do you really think that is for? Do you really think this has anything to do with global warming?

Tell me something, with the spill of so called "fossil fuels", does not one nagging question come to mind? At what depth does fossil fuel exist?

Some VERY big questions need to be asked. The answers are there for everyone to see.

The lies must stop NOW!

TAX AND CONTROL.

Argh!

Someone want to explain to me why these retards are against education? A lot of their other loony agendas rationals are known to me. However arguably the biggest problem with our country is the decline of education and the plummeting average intelligence of the citizenry. So these people want to get rid of the Department of Education instead of revamping it? To what? Divert more money into oppressing brown people and enslaving the lower classes?

I swear to god these teabaggers are like political syphilis left over Bush. Not necessarily relevant, just painful and embarrassing to deal with. I love teabaggers though because it's comforting to know the retards of our society are grouping up and making themselves known. It's like religion, it keeps the dumb ones busy.

The US Department of Education is giant scam.

It is designed not to educate but to indoctrinate. You wonder why education levels are dropping and never look? It is because they are no longer educating children.

Getting rid of the Dept. of Education would finally get the criminals in Washington, DC out of our kids lives where they should play no role. Finally education of young people returns to the States and local authorities.

The Tea Party is right to point this damaging organ of the Federal Government. They waste tax payers dollars to raise America hating communists who are uneducated and quick to anger. Rioters in waiting to be used as tools.

Communists do not like the Tea Party.

Well my glow in the dark friend, what would you call the Iraq war or the current foreign adventurism by this country's military? I guess people like you want to take the funding away from the schools and put it towards the current government agendas. I'm sorry Casper but I'm not all for robbing the future of the nation and the chance for the youth to create a better tomorrow to kill more innocent brown people.

And you people who keep your head buried should really stop referring to those who destroy your world view as "communists." That fashionable fear inducing buzz word is out of date and signifying of your incapability of free thought. Today people of your ilk refer to people with ideas who scare them as "terrorists".

And by the way Egg Shells, if "communism" or "terrorism" or "the boogeyman" or whatever else you people think is out to get you is in reality education and peace, sign me up.
