Europeans moved to an area with only a few homo sapiens, and way more neanderthals. Neanderthals were in other areas - except Africa. So there was
some contribution outside of Europe from Neaderthals. The proportions in Europe were merely more extreme.
The reason for this is that there where more Neanderthals in Europe. Most homo sapiens followed the herds. And the herds wandered West-East. The
few that went up into Europe were not following the largest animal migrations.
