Helicopter crashes north of Wellington, three dead...

www.nzherald.co.nz

Three people have died after an Air Force Iroquois helicopter crashed north of Wellington and a fourth is in hospital with serious injuries.

The helicopter came down down early this morning at Pukerua Bay north of Wellington, near the Paekakariki Hill Road.

It was en route from the RNZAF's base at Ohakea to Anzac Day commemorations in Wellington.

Information is very hazy at the moment... I have been following the story for a few hours now as it has been updated, the helicopter was on the way to ANZAC memorial day gatherings as far as I am aware... Something just seems a little odd to me, why would they be allowed to fly in 'extremely misty' conditions.

I have family in Wellington, I shall see if I can find out more.

Maybe it's just being an ATSer, or maybe it's the lack of current information, but I find it quite odd.

[EDIT they have just changed the headline to state that it is an Air Force helicopter and added pictures.]

it's because NZ zapped from the indian ocean to the pacific...they just ran into the island, as it wasn't suppose to be there....
