Not trying to make this a sword fight and take away from this very useful thread you guys have going on over here. Does knowing what I do in my profession merit your point or stance? Lets just say I can write the prescriptions you can't.

Now let's include the originals

Man you guys are the laughing stock of ATS, no wonder Liberalism is being acknowledged as a mental disease. You guys never make any sense.

Beyond your favorite radio and TV entertainers (experts that they are) please back-up your slur. As a clinical psychologist, I'd have to disagree. In fact, the lack of empathy is a hallmark of sociopathy, and boy do conservatives love to dis empathy. Furthermore, being a 'ditto-head' sounds like some type of disorder to me, but maybe we'll have to wait for the DSM V1 for an official classification.

Wow, does your professional classification even mean anything? Actually it makes me worry now that I think about it a little more. Most professional would sometimes overlook their own ills especially when they think they know better, as you being in the field you are. Healthcare industry professionals are notorious for self diagnosing and implementing a self treatment.

Wait a moment. Are you one of those 50 dates people? You said in the quote above that 'Liberalism was a mental illness' and then you have the gall when called upon it to insult someone just because you can not handle the truth. Truth be told you need to look up liberal politics so you know what you are talking about. It is the Liberals who made sure you had rights in the first place (amendments). Conservatives don't want anyone to have rights, dignity or anything else.
And for all of you who feel differently: Do you remember the parable of the Good Samaritan? He was definitely not a conservative - because he stopped to help someone that looked like a bum. Gave this person a place to stay and money and went about his way w/o asking for a darn thing back.
WooHoo!

That Tom Tomorrow comic strip is hilarious!
I forwarded it to my wife.

If it wasn't so funny, it'd be a bit of a very sad truth.

Pin the tail on the new guy.
Responsible for not only his on-going first term, but the two damaging terms prior.

You're so right.
How can conservatives just simply forget that the economic crisis culminated with Bush, and only stared to turn around after Bush? That's some really selective memory. The graph speaks for itself. I can't understand peoples' inability or unwillingness to acknowlege the facts.

I have to agree with skunknuts, that conservatives are less empathetic. Why do you suppose that is, since most conservatives claim so-called "Christian" values. I never could understand that.

Check these out and see if they ring true:

Whiners grow up to be conservatives

www.latimes.com...

Politically conservative agendas may range from supporting the Vietnam War to upholding traditional moral and religious values to opposing welfare. But are there consistent underlying motivations?

Four researchers who culled through 50 years of research literature about the psychology of conservatism report that at the core of political conservatism is the resistance to change and a tolerance for inequality, and that some of the common psychological factors linked to political conservatism include:

* Fear and aggression
* Dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity
* Uncertainty avoidance
* Need for cognitive closure
* Terror management

What a load. Liberals in power exemplify these and even write new disorders. I suppose Stalin, Mussolini, and Hitler were all conservatives?

To put it more accurately from a conservative point of view these can all be re-written to:

* Fear and aggression - To Tyranny.
* Dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity - To Tyranny.
* Uncertainty avoidance - Of Tyranny.
* Need for cognitive closure - Of the Intent of Tyranny.
* Terror management - Of the fear of the Tyrannical.
