U.S. Swimming Sex Scandal: Abuse, Molestation, Secret Tapings & More

www.huffingtonpost.com

U.S. swim coaches have molested, groped and secretly taped numerous teenage swimmers over the past decade, according to ABC News. The network counts "36 coaches banned for life for sexual misconduct over the last 10 years" by the U.S. governing body for swimming.

The report zeroes in on several offenders in particular. 62-year-old Andrew King was found to have abused at least a dozen teenage girls over several decades and in numerous states. Another, Brian Hindson of Indiana, was sentenced to a 33-year federal prison term after he was found to have secretly taped multiple girls in a "special" shower room.

Critics argue that USA Swimming, which governs even the U.S. Olympic swim team, does not screen potential coaches carefully enough. The governing body says it only checks for criminal convictions. Scroll down to watch ABC's report, and click here for their full text version.

Lately we have been testifying the increase of the pedophile structure in the internet, through livechats, Orkut-like communities as well as educational and religious entities, but it seems that this structure is acting in all elements of society, including sport entities. I came across with this article, reporting the action of a massive pedophile structure, involving professionals in the US swimming organizations and despite the fact that these complaints have been done within USA, obviously this problem may be happening all over the world, so, if you have kids practicing swimming sport, stay sharp!!

So this guy gets 33 years for video taping girls in the shower and these Catholic priests get to walk for the rape and torture of countless under aged boys over decades? WTF?

I'm fine with 33 years for the swimming pervert, but the Catholic rapists should get at least that much! This just goes to show the special treatment being given to the priests.

catholics, teachers, swim coaches...

is it just me, or are these mostly average (or at least highly variable) people being accused of the same offenses. Either theres something wrong with people, or theres something wrong with the law. I dont really feel like arguing either way, because the place where that line has been drawn is far too protected. Ill get my ass whopped on both sides.

Not that you should take hidden videos of anyone no matter how old they are, particularly young people

The problem is that the Catholic clergy is part of the Illuminati structure of power. Regarding that the Vatican hid and covered a load of Nazi officers, after the WWII, including the current pope, people shouldn't be delusional thinking that pedo priests will suffer any kind of punishment.

Pornography is inside human's mind, regardless which social position are you occupying. It's seem that we are living an edge-situation and this evil structure involving child molestation is no longer hidden.

Good grief!!!!!

This article is about a swim coach, why exactly are the majority of comments aimed at Catholic Priests?

I'm glad he was caught and punished, now all we have to do is figure out how to keep our children safe from teachers, coaches, doctors, etc.

Ok. these coaches were wrong, but lets not pretend we watch swimming or gymnastics without noticing these girls bodies. The sport is just not that interesting. The flexible, toned young bodies are.

Flame me all you want, at least I am honest about it.

The same goes for cheerleading. They may be athletic, but that is not why anyone pays attention. It is the muscular legs, and stomachs, and skirts.

So, abuse of power, and breaking of the sacred trust that a coach needs is a terrible thing, but these guys are not monsters, they just have more access than the normal person, and they give into natural urges and temptations. Tiger Woods is not a sex addict, and making coffee in the buff in your own home is not a crime.

exactly. you might as well name any other profession that works with children, and many that dont.

...OR anywhere where people are employed at all it seems

Are people more likely to tune out morality over lust nowadays, or is it just that this is being more commonly reported? Seems like either people are forgetting their social responsibilities, those responsibilities are changing, or reporters are just capitalizing on the opportunity to print headlines that contain these hot words (which, frankly, still reeks of exploitation). I dont think anyone is truely justified in there position (except for all you at home thinking... wtf?)

Noticing girls bodies of WHICH age??? Anyone guessing the body of children in swimming suits, "interesting", is having serious psychic disturbances. And even if your are talking about teenage girls, one thing is look at them, ANOTHER thing is record hidden tapes of them, specially if you are the coach.

Agreed, it is a disgusting world we live in.

I also wonder how many instances are true versus people reporting hoping for a pay out. Unfortunately, I am not willing to sacrifice my children to find that out, so I will go on being "the overly protective control freak" at least I know they are safe. Not to mention my own curiosities don't matter in Brian's case, he is guilty.

I was a swimmer for a long time, and as a child or even as a teenager you don't really think that sort of thing or the father's sitting in the stands, you take for granted that they are there to support their child and the team.

I remember in high school we always did our stretches on deck before meets never thinking anything of it, your an athlete, you need to stretch before competition, in swimming you do it poolside. That is until one day one of the parents made a comment about how flexible I was, still in innocence you don't really "get it", until I mentioned it to my parents. Well, they handled it and I learned to be a little more careful.

Even years later, I still maintained many of my fellow swimmer friends and in sitting around talking to them and their parents just randomly it was crazy for me to hear father's commenting on girl's bodies that we used to swim with, it really was disgusting for me to think about. But at that age, you don't really realize the potential until someone points it out for you.

Brian was a high school coach so yes his case is technically not pedophilia, although he remains a twisted criminal.

Agreed. There is nothing sexually attractive about pre-pubescent children, and it is never ok to "hide" a camera or "peep" on somebody. If it was ok, then it wouldn't have to be hidden.

My post was more for the teens just below 18, biologically mature, very attractive and very illegal.

I was just pointing out that nobody minds profiting off the attraction of men to young girls, but everybody is quick to call them pervs. Nature and biology set up the attraction, but a bunch of bureaucrats set the rules. Seems like a recipe for disaster.

right. Its all about that line, who draws it, and where.

Its funny, the people at the top who actually determine where the line is drawn are often found guilty of crossing it. It really isnt so cut & dry or black & white. but it is officially legal or illegal

I'm 19, and i dont see myself growing out of 17 year old girls any time soon. Something tells me it doesnt just work like that.

Evolutionary psychology tells us that men will go for younger fitter women in the name of advancing ones genes, not that thats an adequate scapegoat for breaking the law. the law is there, and were all responsible for it no matter how little understanding we think it may show.

I know i would'nt do something so taboo because my conscience says so. But, like, give me the 'wrong' kind of trees and im all over it. maybe im a hypocrite. Bureaucracy's a bi%##

This is why, womens swim teams SHOULD have and be allowed by law or regualtions only, female coaches* men wil do perverted things unsuspecting. Last year in news, at local train station, an illegal immigrant was the janitor thier. Everyone liked him..but a 24 year old woman was in the bathroom, and heard a compuer noise behind a pile of toilet paper next to her.
It was a cell phone...the janitor, was secretly taping women using the public bathrooms, hiding his cell phone behind oilet paper. needless to say he was bought to court and think he was deported.
sick: ( how ddi any of those rapist coaches get jobs in other places and citys? yuode think the sex scandal would be filed with them?

I know this jump aside of this discussion, but I think a similar principle should be applied to gynecological medicine. Only woman gynecologists could to examine female patients. I don't know in USA but here in Brazil there's a load of sexual scandals involving male gynecologists.

Agreed. Some professions or postitons of power should be gender specific,or controlled so any shady activities don't occur as often to make it much harder for an individual to control the direction of another individual for ulterior motives or actions. I've always wondered about male coaches for womens teams... I mean, really?
