I was wondering about 'why not fire it out into space?' too
when I realised the hazards.
Material like that can get trapped anywhere and can cause
some major upsets... imagine getting some of it on your
shoes during a spacewalk... there's no sticks up there to get it
out of your waffle!

What if it floats onto the windscreen?
What if NASA are doing a live-feed of some exciting event
when a 'jobbie' comes a-floating by... sweetcorn and all!

Somebody has taken a lot of time on fixing this sticky problem.

Worse yet, I wonder how many times an astronaut has vomited in a spacecraft, during zero g.... that had to really be bad...

I always wondered about this and was too embarrassed to ask. Frankly the idea of going into a suction tube is frightening.
