UN council in agreement over sanctions Iran.

London: the five members of the security council and Germany are in agreement that new sanctions are to be put in place because of Iran's unwillingness to fulfill its international obligations.

In a meeting held Wednesday, UK, US, France and Germany reached an agreement with China and Russia to put new sanctions on Iran. The next few days they are going to work on a new resolution for the security counsil.

Given the hindsight of recent history, does anybody else think sanctions (presumably ecconomic) are absolutely detrimental to the people of Iran, and that such measures play right into the hands of those determined to eventually take the country?

Does the UN hope that this option might lead to a wider rebellion against the naton's current leadership, when they start running out of medical supplies, funds for education etcetera--as became the case in Iraq post desert-storm? There was certainly hoarding on Hussein's behalf--but tens of thousands of children perished from illnesses easily cured had the UN/US not directly blocked shipments of basic medical supplies into the country.

This is not diplomacy. This is a direct affront to diplomacy. In my mind it reeks of a tried and tested method; the five steps to open warfare.

I am no fan of Iran's current head of state by any means...but he/they will not be the one's who eventually suffer from these sanctions.
