This bill Which was an alternative to Clintons back in 93 has some astounding similarities to "Obamacare" yet, it yielded a lot of conservative/republican support.

Health Equity and Access Reform Today Act of 1993

Subtitle F: Universal Coverage - Requires each citizen or lawful permanent resident to be covered under a qualified health plan or equivalent health care program by January 1, 2005. Provides an exception for any individual who is opposed for religious reasons to health plan coverage, including those who rely on healing using spiritual means through prayer alone. Subtitle G: Definitions - Defines terms used in this Act. Title II: Tax and Enforcement Provisions - Subtitle A: General Tax Provisions - Amends the Internal Revenue Code to exclude from an employee's gross income employer-provided coverage under a qualified health plan or employer-provided contributions to the employee's medical savings account. Includes excess employer contributions in such gross income.

I don't know about you guys but all this opposition to our current health care bill seem like political posturing just for the hell of it, especially after stumbling on this.

Not too surprising. This sort of tactic is used all the time in D.C. Neither party really stands for anything, they stand AGAINST whatever the other party is for.

Nice find and thanks for posting this.

It really makes no difference which political party is in power or in opposition. It's all much of the same regardless of administration.

Each and every political party is a group of people trying to benefit themselves and their friends as much as possible before the next election.

Great find. Thank you for bringing this up. I was in middle school at the time and had no idea what was going on. It is nice to have a historical reference point.

Makes all of the Repulican posturing seem like a bunch of bull. Really though, did anybody think they stood for the people's interest?

As I said else where:

No because as a party they (Republicans) actually get more in campaign donations than the Democrats. Obama got the most of any single canidate, but the Repulicans get more as a party.

So he (Obama) calls for reform with a public options. The Republicans come out and appear to fight tooth and nail to stop the public option. Obama says, okay we'll drop the public option. A few democrats put up a fascade of indignation. The public buys in to the whole dance. Then the insurance companies start pocketing our money.

We spent a year screaming at each other while Insurance C.E.Os laughed and slid more money congress's way.
