I don't get it.

Or, I do get it, but for the sake of discussion...

Why Are PEOPLE Squeamish About Human Breast Milk ??

Here's a story about breasts and milk and cheese:
Wife's Baby Milk in Chef's Cheese Recipe

This Chelsea restaurant has gone from brasserie to brassiere. Chef Daniel Angerer is letting diners at Klee Brasserie munch on cheese made from his wife's breast milk. "It tastes like cow's-milk cheese, kind of sweet," he told The Post.

The flavor depends on what the cheese is served with -- Angerer recommends a Riesling -- and "what the mother eats," said Angerer, who once bested Bobby Flay on TV's "Iron Chef."

Breast milk doesn't curdle well due to its low protein content, so a little moo juice has to be added to round out the texture, Angerer said.

I mean, wait... Personally, as a scientist, I find the human habit of sucking COW utters thoroughly disgusting.

I don't drink cow milk, it's nasty stuff.

But why are human beings so squeamish about feeding off of human breasts? Hey, man, it's the most natural thing in the world. I'd much rather drink breast milk than cow milk, for Godsake. Man, we didn't evolve to suckle the teat of another species. We're supposed to suckle our own, right, mate?

Look at all the taboos in our society related to the human body and bodily fluids. We want things sanitary, sterilized, germ-free. We wear gloves to put a band-aid on a child. We were face masks to examine each others' teeth. Heck, we have to use multiple-layers of Kleenex to wipe our children's nose, and then immediately we use hand sanitizer, spray the Lysol, etc.

Now think about how intimate breast milk is with relation to the human body. With out current obsession with "cleanliness," is it really any surprise that we find breast milk rather.....gross? Or....unsanitary?

Now personally I think breast feeding is absolutely natural, and probably better for both child and mother. I see nothing gross or unsanitary or disturbing when a mother breastfeeds.

But personally, I don't think I'd want to eat something where breast milk was an ingredient. No matter how much it was cooked, sterilized, etc.... I can't get the image of HOW the milk got in the bowl out of my head.

I have to agree ... why are people squeamish about breast milk ?

Especially when you consider some of the other bodily fluids that are regularly digested !

If you ever put breast milk on your coffee you wouldnt be asking why be squeamish. I did it by total mistake and it was GROSSSSSSSSS.

However, i do feel this incredible bond with my daughter-in-law.

That is nasty stuff. Sorry.

Haha, funny topic.

I just watched the 5th season of Weeds, and there is an episode that pushes the envelope for those squeamish about human breast milk!

I like to imagine humans out in a field under a cow, getting their milk .. now that makes ME squeamish ... so unnatural

No WAIT... The USDA has been brainwashing us for over a hundred years with this bullcrap about bovine lactation being FUNDAMENTAL to Human growth!

THAT's a conspiracy.

Humans do not need processed bovine milk for proper development. Period! Yet we've been conditioned to SHUN human breast milk in favor of another species' milk!

Sure, capitalism, consumerism, commercialism, blah, blah, blah... But this is a deep conspiracy going back thousands of years. We know that humans didn't domesticate cattle until about 6000 years ago. Before that, for hundreds of thousands of years, we were sucking them big beautiful human tits!

So, did our abrupt addiction to cow's milk CAUSE the rise of modern civilization? Did it cast our women into competition with cloven-hoofed animals? Perhaps this marked the beginning of the dehumanization of women, eh?

Isn't that enough of a conspiracy for you?

Doc,

Funny you say you'd prefer it on tap. A few friends and I were sitting around the table last week shootin' the ****. The topic of milk came up. We all decided that Hooters restaurants should start serving breast milk on tap.

Maybe because some statistics who say babies fed with breast milk have more chances of getting cancer.

I'm not squeemish about it, think of all the jobs it would provide

No, seriously i'm not bothered, I think if I sat there with a cup of tea pouring breast milk into it, would be a little bit weird at first, but ya know, wouldn't last.

I could just see all the different types of marketing now
and a tesco brand ''We pay 73p a litre, providing jobs across Britain''

Why? Well, because it's a secretion or something.

Babies only drink it because they don't know any better.

People are squeemish about breast milk ??? I did not know that.

When one of my friends knocked up his wife, ... he told me he liked drinking breast milk, and that it was sweet. I could imagine him squirting it all over his cereal.

I think people might only have reservations about it because it's coming from another human being, ... and its so raw, you don't see people going around drinking milk straight from cows udders.... and when people buy milk from the store, they can dissasociate where it came from.

Try milking your wife when her hands get tired - all squeamishness goes out the window. My wife had a cheapo manual pump, and it took her nearly half an hour of vigorous action to get what was necessary, so I had to take over from time to time. It started off as a bit creepy, but then became a half hour's entertainment for two people on maternity/paternity leave.

I've since considered offering my services as a friendly and convenient neighbourhood milkman - sadly my handwritten flyers have gone unanswered.

Aren't we supposed to stop drinking breast milk at some point in our development? Kind of weaning off the stuff so that we eat other foods?

Breast milk is for babies, and babies only..not gourmet cooking...
so many levels of wrong there.

I'm with AD on this one...(and there are other milk solutions to the chef's dilemma)

And, for those saying they like it "on tap", etc., have you actually ever tasted it?
I have (out of accident, and curiosity), and "no thanks"....

(though the attempt can be fun...

Oh, yeah. Kinda reminds me of grapefruit juice — a little tangy, a little sour, a little sweet. But, I mean, it's the perfect human food, manufactured exclusively for human consumption.

Why we would be brainwashed into feeding our babies cow's milk, suckling from another species, is beyond me. Aside from the fact that the USDA has been brainwashing us for a century about "The Essential Food Groups," which is a fekking LIE from the word Go — cow's milk is no more "essential" to human growth than is cat's milk... You just can't commercialize cat's milk, not enough volume. But if there was a market for cat's milk, you can bet the USDA would tell us it was "essential" to human growth.

The USDA is just a huge marketing hoax.

Nobody is "suckling" from another species...or at least I don't think so...

Most of us drink it out of a glass...

People certainly eat/drink far stranger things...

For example, Google on Birds Nest Soup...

Probably because we've been conditioned as whole to believe consuming human products is bad. No breast milk, but cow or goat milk is fine. No human meat (cannibalism... major taboo), but animal meat is fine.

It doesn't really bother me that we don't drink it. The thought of having women attached to a machine to milk their breasts for someone else's profit is what bothers me. Then even if we got past the any sort of human rights issues and paid fair wages, that stuff would be ridiculously expensive.

Even if if we got past all the problems, I'll be honest and admit I'd be way too grossed out to drink it.
