United States marines and Afghan troops have launched a long-expected attack on the biggest held Taliban town in southern Helmland province.

Here they go. We've been hearing about this assault for weeks in an effort to reduce civilian casualties. Lets hope it works for a change at not too great a cost to the soldiers.

I read somewhere that it will be the biggest minefield and IED zone that the US has ever faced. I just pity the poor people who have to live in such a dangerous place once it's all said and done.
