There is no such thing as a "rod".

"Rods" are fast flying insects (or occasionally birds) that are videod with a camera that does not have a high enough frame rate to clearly differentiate the insect (or bird).

There have been many threads on ATS regarding that & there is a great deal of material external to ATS.

I particularly recommend DepthOfField's strong work on this:

If you look in his "posts" area, you should be able to pick up his info.

You should also use the ATS search function & search for "rods".

Someone claimed that doesn't prove all rods are birds, bats or insects, yet nobody has ever shown a rod video made with a high speed 1000 frames per second camera, there's the proof. This is what you see at 1000fps.
