Humanity is NOT ready to meet ET

our race has rarely, if ever, been ready for any of the seachange eventsthat have come upon us.

Was humanity ready to expand from European the late 15th century? No, not really. Curious? Yes, but we were entirely too incapable of understanding those civilizations we came upo and ended up extinguishing most of their culture and spreading disease even when we didn't outright conquer them.

And building from this understanding, is ET ready to meet us? Would we be accepted as we are, allowed to continue human culture unmolested?

We often assume so much of our visitors... that merely by their presence here, they must have passed through some point that rendered them into friendly, benevolent critters that would not do to us what we have done to our own kind under similar circumstances.

But I do think that the truth may be that neither we or those visitors are in any way so far advanced that we are somehow beyond making a mess of things... and that may well be why 'they' don't want direct contact with us.

One, it may be for our good that we remain separate... and two, it may be for their own good that they don't want us messing around in their lives. Any invasive species is capable of eradicating those others that they compete with in a given environment.

We may be as much a threat to them as sci fi has made them to us.

I agree with you. If we can't get along with our own species, how then are we going to be able to tolerate some Aliens!!!! No.. don't look for disclosure either. If you thought that you were the most intelligent beings in the Universe and the most technologically advanced, that creates a feeling of being very special and a big ego of superiority. O special us..look at what we can do!!!!
Then..bang!!! You get blown off your throne!! You are not first!!! You may not even be second!!!! And you are not so special anymore. Would you want to tell everybody we are just part a large number of other beings that share a Universe?? It does not look as if we are big on sharing either!!
Heaven forbid having to rewrite History! Now how well would that go over with everyone who have their beliefs ingrained since childhood? Some may do well, others will not.
No.. we are not ready yet.

When you tell someone "i like you" what you are really saying is "I'm like you." Since humans have sooo many differences (at least that we make up in our heads), it's hardly surprising how much we fight amongst ourselves. And thus the zero probability of a white house lawn landing.

The beauty about childhood is that you can teach kids anything and they will accept the program. Once you reach 10 you're well on your way to be indoctrinated into hardcore beliefs whether you realize it or not and by the time you're 20 it's over. Sure as an adult you can adopt different beliefs, but not like a child could. As an adult there is some room for "wiggling" in a small space, but there's no room to run.
