Science untarnished by 'Climategate,' U.N. says

news.cnet.com

The head of the U.N.'s panel of climate experts rejected accusations of bias on Thursday, saying a "Climategate" row in no way undermined evidence that humans are to blame for global warming.

Climate change skeptics have seized on a series of e-mails written by specialists in the field, accusing them of colluding to suppress data which might have undermined their arguments.

I think there's a bit of wishful thinking going here, how can they even say the science is untarnished after Climategate?

Are they delusional or what? From what I can tell, Australia, China, India, Saudi Arabia, Russia, most parts of the USA and UK, all know that CO2 causing Global Warming is a crock of [snip], so why are the alarmist's still trying to carry as if Climategate never happened? It just doesn't make any sense. Do they think if they just ignore it it'll go away eventually?

I agree.

They say "the series of e-mails written by specialists in the field",

I wonder what type of Mushrooms are in that field.

You are exactly correct in your guess that they are simply ignoring it, except that they know full well that it WILL go away. Not enough people care. Or people believe that leaders are nothing less than people that truly and deeply care about each individual and all of their hopes and dreams.

I really believe that just like everything else, the media is typically instructed to ignore a topic -- And then it usually does go away. When an issue doesn't go away easily, the same media gives the same old propaganda that crazy 'Conspiracy Theorists' are behind it so it is irrational to even consider.

They have already mastered the art of making proof of fraud disappear. The more unbelievable, the easier it is for people to believe that it's those crazy Schizophrenics imagining things again.

Sorry to rant in your thread about something we all know and think already, but... Bad day.

The stolen emails don't do anything to tarnish the science. There's nothing there that has any impact on current understanding.

What it might have resulted in is an effect on the public perception of science. By taking emails out of context and misrepresenting them, the affair had the potential to alter public perception. Considering that most have minimal understanding of the science or its issues, sophistry can work its wicked way.

But that was the main aim anyway. When you've lost the scientific battle propoganda and swiftboating is one effective approach.
