Osama bin Laden nearly killed Clinton in 1996

rawstory.com

During the 1996 visit, Clinton was scheduled to visit a Filipino politician. The route he was to take required him to cross a bridge in downtown Manila. As the motorcade was about to depart, Merletti received “a crackly message in one earpiece” informing him that intelligence operatives had picked up a transmission that used the words ‘bridge’ and ‘wedding’ in the same sentence. Since ‘wedding’ was known to be a code word for assassination, Merletti ordered that the motorcade be re-routed.

For every one who was around during the rein of Clinton, bin Laden was not as well know then as he is now. His network was up and running though. The source article does go on to say that a bomb was found under the bridge that Clintos car was suppose to cross before it was changed. In adation two more bombs were found in the city during the meeting. Knowing that it is even more unfortunate that Clinton did not size the change to take out bin laden when he had the chance.

After-the-fact, second-party bullsnap.
Bin Laden is dead.

I don't want to hear any more fear mongering in his name.

Sorry.

At the grocery store I work at, people still talk about Bin Laden ALL OF THE TIME. It's bull#. If people could realize that this man is dead, and the U.S. Government is just using him as an ideology to promote more war and profit off of it, then our Government wouldn't do half the # that they do today. Back on topic, it doesn't surprise me that he was almost killed. They don't # around over there. They hated us and the continue to hate us more and more each day that we're in their country killing people.

This is not true! As a matter of fact right now high in the Alps Osama Bin Laden rides on a great big elephant at the head of an enormous column of ferocious flesh eating men with Hannibal himself at his side.

They ride for Rome even as we speak and if you are not careful and don’t mind your parents and don’t eat all your porridge and brush your teeth and say your prayers before bed, Osama, oops I mean Hannibal will get you and carry you off to Macedonia on one of his elephants and throw you into a great big pit of fire and sacrifice you to Allah, oops I mean the Macedonian Gods and eat all your flesh after they cook you alive!

Now I KNOW you wouldn’t want that to happen Jay, so let’s get that homework done and ready for bed now!

Or should I tell Osama, oops I mean Hannibal that you have been bad?

Forget whether or not the article is accurate for a moment and focus on why would they reveal this now? They never bring up Bin Laden's name unless they are preparing us for something. Think about it. Obama mentioned his name at the West Point speech right before announcing our expanded efforts.

During campaigning, the only time his name was brought up was right before anybody would mention the war in Iraq.

They tend not to bring his name up because it's symbolic with 9/11, the war in Iraq, and the fact that he has alluded us for more than eight years. (I'm not arguing whether or not that's FACT, only that the majority of the people believe it is).

If I had to guess why, I would say it's because his War Funding Bill is about to be presented and he is trying to sway public opinion with a reminder of the "evil man" we are fighting and why we are still there.

I'm guessing the bill is going to be astronomical and it's yet another huge chunk of money not going to directly benefitting the American people.

First off thanks to everyone who is posting.

You do make a good point there. I can't help but wonder not so much what things might be like if he had been killed. But even if the bomb had just gone off when he was near by. Things could be quite a bit different now.

osama doesnt scare me half as much as my own government and the policies they put in place to protect me from his ilk. Aside from that it was over a decade ago and were hearing about it now? Whats the point of the article? That intelligence used to act on things they heard as apposed to using their aftermath to their own ends?

I posted this now because it was reliced now, and assassination attempts on commander and chief of the U.S. is not something that happens every day. Much less by way of bomb.

Yep.

We would have had Al Gore as president and have already an extra carbon tax.

We would be in the global war on carbon dioxide

Taliban relations with the US at this stage, were still utilitarian in nature - in other words - quid pro quo.

So if Bin Laden did indeed attempt to knock off Clinton in 1996, he did so without the groundswell of support that he gained later.
