To be fair, most countries were created in the past 200 years. Very few modern nations outside of Western Europe pre-date WWI or even the Napoleonic Wars . The societies, yes, but not the borders or names.

Even before the Step and Bent pyramids, the Egyptians were building structures called mastabas. They weren't nearly as big as a pyramid, obviously, but they were a step along the way to learning how to build stuff that massive.
