What I am trying to postulate and/or make an educated guess about is that smashing hydrogen, helium or even heavier elements such as Gold nuclei at each other at high velocity and FOCUSED upon such a small area...a runaway reaction may result.

Yes but what you need is a form of compression and you need to perform a form of compression using enough mass to maintain a reaction over a continuous period. That's fusion, and the LHC can't do that.

I ESPECIALLY NOTE the following paragraph on Page 1:

collisions at RHIC will exceed that of any existing accelerator.

dangerous experiment than any contemplated at a high energy
accelerator. To be effective in triggering exotic new phenomena,

Which speaks of the danger of High Energy Densities which the
LHC is now encroaching into....such as noted by this line:

"...To be effective in triggering exotic new phenomena,
energy must be concentrated in a very small volume..."

Please note in the above full paragraph quote them explaining
the terms "Energy Density" versus "Total Energy" which I have
outlined in earlier posts!

The LHC is JUST THE RIGHT VEHICLE to perform at energy levels
in such concentrated units of space, that new and "strange" matter
may be created which COULD DOOM US ALL !!!!!

Not to be too alarmist here, but there are other articles
which deal with the high energy densities mentioned to be
taking place at the LHC specifically, which somewhat
alleviate my concerns but DO NOT OUTRIGHT DISMISS
THE ISSUES EITHER!

On a technical level, the LHC COULD PROBABLY PERFORM a fusion
reaction by adding some extra control software to the
electromagnetic shielding and heavier power input to the
proton beam driver coils to form a basic Tokamak reactor (MAYBE!)

My main concern is not a fusion reaction because you are indeed
correct, there is no SUSTAINABLE ability to fuse basic elements
together. The more likely scenario is a SINGLE ULTRA-SHORT TERM
breakdown of matter event (femto-second or less in duration)
that may form the oft-mentioned strangelet.

Strangelets are fine...the problem begins if they are negatively
charged and begin accreting matter at accelerating rates.

THEN WE'RE ALL DOOOMED I TELL YOU !!!! DOOMED!!!!!!!!!!

WE'LL BE DOOOOOMED AND EVEN MORE DOOMED!

On a slightly different question as to WHY WE'RE DOING ALL THIS?

If we could find the basic methodology to creating sustainable
SHORT-TERM matter accretion and breakdown events, we then
have the keys to the universe i.e. INFINITE ENERGY for our
modern civilization!

...or...

Prove once and for all that there are such demonstrably
physical manifestations of the concept of "Higher Dimensions"
which means FTL (Faster Than Light) Travel and Instaneous
High Bandwidth Communications, no matter the distance!

...or...

Prove the transmutability of basic elements by breaking down
atomic-scale structures into QUARKS and then recombining
them back into basic elements such as Gold, Allotropic Carbon
(aka Diamonds), Hydrogen, etc...this would mean Alchemy come
to life in our modern manufacturing world...or in other words for
you Star Trek: The Next Generation geeks....FREE Holodecks and
FREE Matter Replicators!!!!!! Wahooo!!!!!

If God indeed exists, which is entirely possible if if we went with my theory that God is merely a very highly(but not necessarily infinite) self-evolved intelligence, and he does not want us to know HOW he evolved, that is, he has an inferior complex because he knows he's not eternal, and doesn't want us to know that he's finite, then it's entirely possible that he created the atom such that a black hole will always appear, before the God particle, if one insists on finding the ultimate secret.
