Early evening. The sun has set. Cruising around with my father, home for a short vacation. There is a slight rain as we roll around Kansas, a state which is literally flatter than a pancake.

We look to the horizon. Three bright lights in the sky. Unmoving but shifting. Green, Red, Red, Green, Red, Green, Green, Red. We wonder what is hovering over our suburb.

richardxthripp.thripp.com...

I go ahead, swallow my pride, and say it. "That looks like a UFO." "Do you really think so?" He asks as if he is concerned about the situation. We change our course to chase it.

It's a difficult task. It looks like it's hovering over a wooded area near my grandparent's home. We lose it time and again, but keep a generally good grasp on where it should be. We find a route we think will lead us to the area.

The rain gets heavier. Its becoming more difficult. Green, Red, Red, Green. We take left turn and sit on the bottom of a large hill, next to a KFC/Taco Bell. We look up the hill. The craft glows red.

The UFO is a stoplight.

Thanks ATS.

All I can say is "Exactly, it was a spotlight."

Half the stuff I read in the Alien n UFO forum are people who extremely believe that they saw "a Alien craft"...it's a UFO, which can be anything! It can be a piece of torn paper and it still is a UFO because we don't know what it is.

The people here who are hardcore believers of seeing UFO's are no better than religious folks who "see" Jesus and Mary in odd places.

Same sh*t, different smell.

Great read. I was highly entertained just reading this because of the ending.

A stoplight. Brilliant!

I imagine about 90% of sightings can be explained.

Welcome the wonderful world of "Oh, damn it..." Then laugh at yourself... Not to worry, we've all done that sort of thing.

That's one of the better stories I've read...

But nice story.

If it was a stoplight, how come it's in the sky as you said? It would'nt have been in sky to start with but in horizon but nowhere near sky. Don't blame ATS for your falsified judgement.

Another thing, the lights are timed out to run in sequence, and you said "Three bright lights in the sky. Unmoving but shifting. Green, Red, Red, Green, Red, Green, Green, Red. ", you forgot to include orange. The lights go from Green=Orange=Red=Green..etc.

I remember this one night driving a Semi on a lonely stretch of hwy 191 south of Rock Springs Wyoming I passed a railroad crossing maybe 3, 4 am... I was dead tired with the nodding head and blurry eyes when the crossing gates started to flash and drop down... In that condition I thought to myself, If I didn't know that was a railroad crossing I would swear it was a UFO landing out there on the flats.... Being way out on the flats like that you could see that crossing for miles too....

The spooky part was no train... nothing but me and that flashing crossing far as the eye could see and that would be at least 20, 30 miles in all directions...

If that sort of thing is believing you've seen a UFO - then unfortunately we all haven't.

I think its very likely that ET craft exist - and/or terrestrial craft in a saucer shape.

However, I have never seen any - not even close. I have seen plenty of falling stars, satellites, planes with no lights etc - but nothing that I would have said ' I think thats ET'.

How about a little ET love over here please - green - red - green - red .. must be an ET directing traffic.

Pinch yourself, and have a good laugh, then turn it into a story to tell at parties etc.

LOL most of us have been there many times, and will again, at least you went to have a look, and didn't just dismiss it right off, gives you the ability to comment and understand a little better.

I had a friend once, chase an Alien across a field screaming as he went, when he finally caught up with it, he found a guy in the fetus position screaming don't hit me don't hit me, the guy thought he was going to mug him, that's what he gets for carrying the biggest Maglight he could find, and allowing weeks of strange lights and sightings to convince him they had landed.

No attack on my favorite forum meant! All in good humor.

Just a real life experience about how our "experiences" are often at the whim of weather, media-influences, lack of information, wishful thinking and the like.

That was cool...

"Ooooor, it's an ufo disguised as a stop light". That's how my friend likes to make fun of me everytime i'm disappointed about mistaking stop lights or the moon behind a cloud for an ufo

I say congratulations to you!! You did what any "truly" sane person would do, you examined the situation, researched it, investigated it, and finally came to a conclusion. But, just because this instance was mundane, don't give up, there will be more things to see, so keep looking up.

Thanks ATS.

What no missing time?
You know you can't blame us for that right?

That's just messed up! SnF to help you brush it off.

Just wait until you see a stop light that punches a hole in the clouds.

It's true.

Well, everybody has his/her own day, some experience it, some don't.
