The reason US is ranked so low when it comes to health care is not due to we no having state of the art medical care and prevention but because we have more people without health care coverage than many developing and advance countries.

US still have the best up today specialized health care in the world, remember that many people comes to the US just to look for that specialized care all the time.

Way off topic Marg. It is still a fact that we are ranked #37, I was only stating that fact. You can take your arguments over WHY we have such a kick a##, technologically advanced health care in the US to one of the tens, or hundreds of other threads in Political Madness forum where everyone has been squabbling over it for months.

You brought the issue first my friend I am just following on it along with the Pneumonia plague topic in Ukraine perhaps you should have started your topic of US health care in one of the "other threads".

They have their own news agency now? I must have been asleep for the last couple years. Here's a video of their camera crews getting some news footage...

Chechen news crews

And remember when they went and interviewed those school children?

Interview with children

Does this detract from their credability?

Good question why they don't mention it, since quarantine has been announced in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Rivne, Volyn, Khmelnytsky and Vinnytsia regions of Ukraine.

Ukraine declares quarantine in one more region

Baku – APA. Ukraine declared quarantine in one more region – Kirovograd, APA reports quoting UNIAN. Kirovograd Governor Vladimir Movchan issued an order about that because of closing the number of infection cases to the epidemic level (45.4 from each 10 000). 44 of each 10000 people in Kirovograd were infected with influenza. Movchan also ordered to allocate 99.9 thousand hryvnia from the region’s reserve fund for prevention of epidemic spread.

Earlier the Cabinet of Ministers declared quarantine in nine regions. 96 died as a result of flu epidemic in Ukraine so far.

That is what I am having a problem with everytime I try to find news in the sites that are supposedly from the Ukraine, they either looks like business as usual or the only news they have on the virus outbreak is just nothing.

Still only people that are from the area can tell exactly what is going on from the perspective of their backyard.

Then taking into consideration the economy stress of nations like the Ukraine I can only imagine that they are trying to cover up their health care problems in dealing with so many sick people right now.

Head sanitary inspector: there is no swine flu epidemic in Ukraine
There is no swine flu epidemic in Ukraine. Head sanitary inspector Oleksandr Bilovol said this on the air of ICTV television channel. According to his words, “epidemic of flu and acute respiratory viral infection is noted in the western regions”. “Particularly it is noted in 11 regions, where a threshold is exceeded by 15%”, said the head sanitary inspector. He said that, according to the last data, as a result of epidemic, 71 people died. The head sanitary inspector said that there are 14 cases of A/H1N1 flu, which are confirmed in laboratory conditions. “Three people, who died, had A/H1N1 flu”, said O. Bilovol.

now what did the other70+ people die from then folk's answer me that?

if only 14 of them had the H1N1.

edit i add this seem's fishy to me.
emergency.cdc.gov...
type Pneumonic Plague in the cdc website it come up under....are you ready....
Terrorism > Bioterrorism > section of there website..WHY?

Pneumonic plague is a life-threatening infection of the lungs. It occurs when someone breathes in Yersinia pestis particles. Pneumonic plague is contagious, and an outbreak would be difficult to contain. It can be deadly if not treated quickly, preferably within 24 hours of the appearance of symptoms.

Now, that are not so good news, if the virus has to be contained within 24 hours this thing has been going on for a while already.

I think that they biggest problem in the Ukraine is the lack of proper contingency to deal with an outbreak regardless if is swine flu or pneumonia plague.

Description:
The Health Ministry on Tuesday reported "with 99 percent certainty" its first case of H1N1 flu, a Ukrainian who had spent two years in the United States. Oleksander Bilovol, first deputy health minister, said the case involved a 24-year-old man who had been living in the U.S. city of Detroit and became ill after flying back to Ukraine last week. "On Saturday, specialists reported to me that the patient has A/H1N1 flu," Bilovol told a news conference. "There is a 99 percent certainty that this is A/H1N1. Within two to three weeks we will get (further) results." He said the patient had been in contact with more than 70 people who were now under observation. None had reported any flu symptoms.

Event Update

The death toll in Ukraine's flu outbreak continued to rise on Thursday. A total of 95 persons have died from flu-related symptoms since the disease struck Ukraine's western provinces late last month, said Zinovy Mytnik, vice health minister. A total of 633,877 Ukrainians nationwide have registered with health authorities as suffering from the flu, though some have recovered since the disease's late October outbreak, Mytnik said. Ukraine's Ministry of Health on Wednesday gave a total of currently infected at some 470,000. The particularly virulent A/H1N1 flu strain, or swine flu, was likely responsible for a significant proportion of the infections, based on laboratory testing thus far, Mytnik said, speaking at a Kiev press conference. Since the beginning of the flu outbreak, Ukraine's Health Ministry had sent 31 samples from persons infected with flu to a British laboratory to be checked for the presence of swine flu, of which 15 tested positive. A former Soviet republic, Ukraine lacks a modern public health infrastructure and, since the beginning of the flu outbreak in late October, has seen severe shortages of even simple medical supplies such as protective masks and flu remedies.

No Ukrainian laboratory is capable of testing for the presence of swine flu, Mytnik said. International medical assistance continued arriving in Ukraine on Thursday, with European Union nations taking the lead. Top contributors were Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and Poland - the last being the first country to respond to a Ukrainian October 31 appeal for foreign aid, according to an Intefax report. EU-donated medical supplies en route or already in Ukraine included protective masks, respiration equipment and surgical gloves. Emergency shipments of the swine flu treatment Tamiflu, produced in Switzerland, first began arriving by cargo plane to Ukraine on Sunday. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, on a visit to the western city of Chernovtsy, near the epicentre of the flu outbreak, said government efforts to control the flu's spread were working. 'There is no need to to invoke a national emergency,' she said. Tymoshenko's government has attempted to control the flu outbreak with the imposition of a partial quarantine of eight western provinces most badly hit by the disease, a military-style mobilization of state-owned fabric and clothes factories to mass-produce protective masks, and limits to allowable public gatherings. In the midst of a campaign for Ukraine's presidency, Tymoshenko has, since the beginning of the flu outbreak, repeatedly attacked the private health industry, accusing drug manufacturers of inflating prices artificially and pharmacists of hoarding medical supplies. A government consumer protection agency in Lviv, one of the worst-hit cities in the flu outbreak, on Thursday filed a class-action suit against local health officials, accusing them of conspiring with private health suppliers to price-gouge consumers of medical supplies.

Date: 05.11.2009 05:23:23
Ukraine's deadly flu outbreak widened on Wednesday, as government officials announced new emergency measures in an attempt to control the spread of the illness. More than 478,000 people were registered with national health authorities as suffering from the flu, of whom 17 had confirmed cases of swine flu, Health Ministry spokeswoman Lyudmila Luharska said. The nationwide death count from flu-related illnesses since late October stood at 86, Luharska said at a Kiev press conference, according to the Ukrainska Pravda website. Flu infection was highest in Ukraine's western Lviv, Ternopil and Ivano-Frankivsk provinces, where reports of flu to health authorities had doubled since the weekend, she said. Four deaths from the virulent swine flu strain were confirmed as of Thursday, Luharska said.

One man who died of swine flu was a Kiev resident. A second person in the Ukrainian capital was suspected of having been infected with swine flu. The Kiev swine flu death marked the first jump of swine flu from Ukraine's western provinces, where the flu outbreak has been concentrated so far, to Kiev, Ukraine's largest metropolitan area. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said at a meeting that her government would enact more emergency measures to control the disease's spread and to combat retail shortages of anti-flu drugs and protective anti-infection masks. Tymoshenko said the government would prepare a plan "within a week" to establish a nationwide chain of state-run drug sales centres to combat what she called hoarding and price-gouging by the private health industry.

The centres, each offering a limited assortment of some 100 basic anti-cold and flu drugs, would operate in government-run hospitals and clinics, and sell medical supplies at a marginal price mark-up, Tymoshenko said. Tymoshenko also instructed Foreign Minister Petro Poroshenko to obtain a "special pandemic price" in negotiations with international drug companies for emergency deliveries of anti-flu drugs to Ukraine. Government textile and clothes factories have received 1 million metres of gauze and cheesecloth from state reserves, Tymoshenko said, and emergency production of surgical masks was beginning. Initial deliveries of cloth masks would reach the general public in seven days, "sufficient to provide every Ukrainian citizen two masks," she said. Factories in Kharkiv and the hard-hit Lviv region would produce the masks, according to Ukrainian media reports. Tymoshenko on Monday said that if necessary, her government would commit 6 million metres of gauze and cheesecloth to the emergency mask production programme. Tymoshenko was scheduled to travel to the Lviv province, the epicentre of the flu outbreak, on Thursday afternoon, according to a Cabinet of Ministers statement.

Eighty-six people have died in Ukraine from flu and respiratory infections, the health ministry said Wednesday, in an epidemic the World Health Organisation said could be largely due to the A(H1N1) virus. The ministry said that almost half a million cases of flu and acute respiratory infections had been recorded since mid-October in the country of 46 million, while 24,000 people have been hospitalised. Some 148,000 cases have been recorded in the past 24 hours, it added. The epidemic is concentrated in the west of the country which has borders with four European Union states but a growing number of cases are being reported in the capital Kiev. "As the pandemic virus has rapidly become the dominant influenza strain worldwide, it can be assumed that most cases of influenza in Ukraine are caused by the H1N1 virus," the WHO said on Tuesday. Lyudmila Mukharska, Ukraine's deputy chief health officer, said the authorities had confirmed that five of the dead had died of the H1N1 virus. She vehemently denied rumours that the west of the country was suffering from an outbreak of plague, saying that it was "H1N1 that is circulating in Ukraine". The WHO has sent a team of nine experts to Ukraine to help the authorities with the situation. While the country is suffering from an above-average infection rate, many independent observers have accused Ukraine's squabbling politicians of seeking to profit from the situation ahead of January 17 presidential elections. Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has personally overseen a delivery of anti-flu medicines in the middle of the night while pro-Western President Viktor Yushchenko even called on NATO for help. "Many questions remain to be answered," said the WHO. "The outbreak in Ukraine may be indicative of how the virus can behave in the northern hemisphere during the winter season, particularly in health care settings typically found in Eastern Europe."

Two people have been hospitalized in Kyiv region with suspected symptoms of the A(H1N1) flu virus, commonly known as swine flu, Regional Governor Viktor Vakarash has said. He said this at a teleconference in Kyiv on Wednesday. He said that the patients with suspected swine flu symptoms from Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky and Bohuslav had been immediately taken to hospital, and their samples had been passed to a laboratory to confirm the diagnosis. One of the patients is in an intensive care unit.

he death toll from flu or other acute respiratory viral infections in Ukraine has reached 81, Ukrainian chief sanitary and epidemiology official Oleksandr Bilovol said during Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko's conference call with the heads of regional administrations in Kyiv on Wednesday. The number of those officially diagnosed with flu or other acute viral infections in Ukraine reached 450,000 as of November 4, Bilovol said. At least three people died from the A(H1N1) flu subtype, commonly known as swine flu, while 11 others recovered from it, he said.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has called on the European Union to help neighbouring Ukraine fight a swine flu epidemic, saying its further spread is threatening the wider bloc. Ukraine shut schools, banned public meetings and restricted travel earlier this month in an attempt to combat the H1N1 flu epidemic, which has caused public concern in Poland. "The character of this threat demands that rapid action be undertaken at the European Union level," Tusk wrote in a letter to European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, who holds the rotating EU presidency. "This will serve both the interests of Ukraine, and the EU itself," he said in the letter, reported on Tuesday.

Tusk urged Brussels to hold an extraordinary meeting of the EU's health council to identify Ukraine's needs and discuss availability of vaccines. Poland has so far had only about a dozen H1N1 cases and none has been fatal. But news broadcasts showed Poles lining up at pharmacies to get sanitary masks which were quickly sold out in a sign of growing public concern. Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Kremer told Reuters that Warsaw was awaiting a reply from Brussels, and said he feared the epidemic could spread rapidly in eastern Europe. "Poland has already organised quite reasonable help for Ukraine, but in a split second we will see swine flu in Belarus, we are already hearing something about Romania," he said. Shipments of medicine and medical equipment have been leaving Poland for Ukraine in recent days. A growing number of swine flu cases have also been reported in Germany and Slovakia, which likewise share borders with Poland.

An outbreak of seasonal and swine flu, which hit Ukraine last week, has claimed the lives of 71 people, the country's prime minister said on Tuesday. "Seventy-one people have died of flu as of today," Yulia Tymoshenko said reporting to parliament on the spread of flu and acute respiratory illness. The death toll from the A/H1N1 virus has not changed since Monday's 22 fatalities. The health ministry said on Monday 255,000 flu cases had been reported in the country, with 15,000 receiving treatment in hospital. The government has imposed quarantines in nine western provinces to curb the spread of swine flu, which originated in the Tirnopol Region, closed all education establishments in Kiev and obliged people to wear medical masks in all catering establishments, shops and social services facilities across Ukraine.

Tymoshenko and other top officials met a cargo of 300,000 doses of the Tamiflu medication against swine flu from Switzerland at an airport on Sunday. Slovakia closed two of the five crossings on the border with western Ukraine on Monday over the flu scare, according the AFP. Hundreds of thousands of people pass through the border checkpoints every day. However, Tymoshenko, who insisted there is no swine flu pandemic in the country, but instead an ordinary seasonal flu outbreak, said on Tuesday "the situation has stabilized," as the growth of flu cases has slowed down somewhat. Tymoshenko earlier criticized drug stores for shortages of medicines and blamed "media hysteria" and politicians' populist statements for causing the deficit. She pledged further measures to curb the flu, as well as the panic. Later on Tuesday, parliament approved the allocation of 1 billion hryvnias ($125 million) on measures to fight swine and seasonal flu.

Ukraine’s swine flu epidemic is spreading at an alarming rate. The number of deaths has risen to nearly 50. President Viktor Yushchenko made the announcement, having put the number of victims at 11 just 24 hours earlier. The latest figures suggest 150,000 are sick with H1N1. Schools, universities and playgroups have been closed for the next three weeks. Mass gatherings have also been banned. Panic buying of masks and flu remedies is sweeping the country according to local media reports. The government also announced an emergency package of 40 million euros to go towards anti-swine flu measures. One woman queuing for medicine said: “What can I say? There is no medicine in the chemists. How come nobody prepared for this epidemic? Children are sick. The elderly are sick. There are no masks, not even basic pills. People are queuing and waiting for supplies to come, but nobody knows if they will come or not.” The price of flu medicines rose by as much as 300 per cent in Ukraine during the previous bird flu outbreak.

The Kavkazcenter identifies themselves as "mujahideen", those who are fighting jihad. While this doesn't automatically mean they're lying, it should alert us to the possibility that they have some hidden agenda that might encourage them to distort the facts to suit their goals.

Influenza is a virus. Plague is a bacterium, Yersinia pestis. It is fairly simple to distinguish between them, using cultures. If you get plague bacteria, chances are it's plague. If you don't, and if other tests reveal H1N1 antibodies, chances are it's flu. Even allowing for the possibility that Ukraine has fewer medical resources than the US, distinguishing between plague and flu shouldn't be difficult for them.

Pneumonic plague is easily prevented with antibiotics. It can be treated if caught early, also with antibiotics.

I can't see any reason why the Ukraine government would prefer to hide the truth about plague and claim it's flu. I'd imagine people are just about as worried about H1N1 flu, as plague. Either one sux.

Ukraine infected now at 764,000, which is anomalous to say the least.

WHO Continues To Deceive: Assumes That Ukraine Plague Is H1N1 Swine Flu Global Research

Infectious disease expert Dr. Donald Lau explained that the chances of the Ukrainian pandemic being the same H1N1 virus that has infected the world are very low. “The statistical probability of this being the same H1N1 virus are infinitesimally small.” Dr. Lau stated that the high viral transmission rates are extremely unusual for H1N1 and there is almost certainly some type of new virus, or a lethal recombination that has occurred.

Dr. Lau speculated that the Ukraine government or the WHO may be withholding and/or suppressing information for some unknown reason. “There must have been some misrepresentation of actual deaths versus infection rates.” Dr. Lau has estimated the probable fatality rate of this new virus to be close to 0.5 percent which is astronomically higher than the H1N1 virus in any part of the world.

Swine-Flu Panic in Ukraine: Crisis or Political Ploy? Time

Tymoshenko has not forcefully advocated for people to get vaccinated against the virus. "I am not vaccinated," she said in a television address this week. "I am protecting myself like everybody, with lemon, onion, garlic, everything that is needed. I think the best way is simply to protect your health through well-known means." Yushchenko, meanwhile, has urged people to get vaccinated immediately.

We need some independent testing in there or gather all the Ukrainian pro-vaccine officials up for public batch of vaccines from Baxter and see who runs off.
