JUSTICE Act would roll back telecom wiretap immunity

A group of Senate democrats has proposed a new bill called the JUSTICE Act which seeks to impose stronger safeguards on the surveillance powers granted by the PATRIOT Act. It would also roll back a controversial provision of the FISA Amendment Act that granted immunity to telecom companies that participated in warrantless surveillance.

Finally we see a move back to the preservation of individual rights and liberties that were gutted by the last administration and congress. One of the ironies that is not lost on the rest of the world is that Bush claimed that the war on terror was being waged by those who hated freedom and hated the freedom of people in the US, and this war for freedom was waged by the US government taking those freedoms away from Americans.

What I had always admired about the US was (and I stress was) the commitment to individual freedom and liberty. Nice to see that I might once again be proud of land of my birth.

Well Done!!!
