Well, since you are catching a lot of flack, let me say that it is a very interesting experiment! I will attempt a similar one at my house, and I will attempt to miss the 'errors' pointed out by the other posters.

For the OP, the compass does not appear to have moved, but the reference ring does appear different from pic to pic! You need to provide a reference point on the shelf that is not moveable, and a reference date that is verifiable (i.e. a newspaper with date).

Still, Great Experiment, and I look forward to following this thread and playing with my compass at home!

No magnetic compass will give an accurate reading while in a building.

I tried a little experiment in my bedroom.

I used my Army compass, one I bought in Russia, and my old boyscout compass.

All were somewhat accurate when the lights and all electronics were off, but when I turned on the plasma tv they all were off by about 15 deg. Turned the tv off and they slowly returned to north.

Then I moved them from the east side of the room to the west side, same distance from the tv, got the same result the other direction.

Try it outside.
