If you own river-front property on the Mississippi in New Orleans, your property value is about to skyrocket. Why? Because NOAH, the New Orleans Arcology Habitat (or a City within a City) has a green-light.

Now three ambitious architectural firms have designed a 1200-foot-tall arco especially for New Orleans. Dubbed NOAH (New Orleans Arcology Habitat), this massive triangular-shaped...30 million-square-foot monstrosity on the Mississippi riverfront, just across from the central business district of New Orleans...will attempt to be hurricane proof, there will be 20,000 residential units, three hotels, 1,000,000 square feet of commercial space, plenty of cultural facilities and offices, a 20,000 healthcare clinic, and of course, just for fun, a trio of casinos.

Giant Arcology of the Future Planned for New Orleans

Arcologies are cool! Although I prefer the Ziggurat Arcology being built in Dubai, but it's nice to know that they aren't just for Sci-Fi anymore.

This will end up being a containment facility for much of the people from the lower 9th.

The thing is to convince people they are safer, secure, and better off living in an arc. These things will become a hybrid of projects and prisons. Like the prison industry these things will develop their own industry, owned and operated by private contractors.

Forget totalitarian police state, welcome to the totalitarian prison state.

New Orleans is a doomed city, the sea levels are rising, hurricanes are getting more powerful with even larger storm surges. Building a huge building on land subject to liquifaction when the next large New Madrid earthquake happens is a great idea, put most of the victims in a single space. This is like playing russian roulette with an automatic pistol. Did i mention that the Mississippi river is one of the largest most powerful river systems in the world? Hey! What about tsunamis?

Hideous.

Isn't there ugliness enough in the world already without people adding further monstrosities to it?

Oh don't worry, that will more than likely not happen, or at least not there.

I can't stop laughing, there is no chance on this planet that such a monstrosity would ever be built shadowing over the French Quarter like that. When at one time the interstate was proposed to run alongside the river, you should have seen the uproar then and the fight that followed moved interstate 10 to Claiborne Avenue. Preservationists would never allow that to go there.

Not to mention, they may want to change their name. NOAH is still associated with New Orleans Adolescent Hospital (psych. hospital) and the brunt of a lot of jokes.

That looks amazing. The city could certainly do with some impressive buildings. Knowing what the weather is like out there though i hope it can float.lol
