The Global Information Grid

I just would like to know regarding the GIG that the US government is setting up.

What operating systems will this GIG run on? Because I read that contractors including Microsoft will actually fund this project.. Does this mean that these systems will most likely to be run on Windows?

And also, would you think that DARPA is behind some of this project??
