TOKYO, Aug 17 (Reuters) - An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.5 hit near islands in southern Japan on Monday, a Japanese government agency said.

What the heck is going on, they've had a handful of large earthquakes in the last week.

It is unusual because they've been so large compared to the usual small ones.

I keep wondering, is this all normal or have we entered a new era of distruction???

Earthquakewise i tend to stand on the normal side of things.
I hope not too many people are/will be in the toll count.

If you look around Indonesia over the last few days, they have had 10+ of 5.0 and above.

The Japanese 6.7 yesterday had a cursory mention on Sky News then nothing.
