Iraqis Protest Against Shi'ite Militia in Najaf
By Suleiman al-Khalidi
NAJAF, Iraq (Reuters) - Hundreds of Iraqis marched in Najaf Tuesday calling on militant cleric Moqtada al-Sadr to withdraw his fighters from the
Shi'ite holy city.
It was the biggest and most public display yet of mounting local exasperation with an uprising launched last month against the U.S. occupation and
follows a U.S. crackdown on Sadr's Mehdi Army, which says it plans to open up new fronts in its war.
