Nigerian Islamic sect leader killed in detention

www.reuters.com

By Ibrahim Mshelizza
MAIDUGURI, Nigeria (Reuters) - The leader of a radical Islamic sect in northern Nigeria has been killed in police detention hours after being captured by the security forces, a police spokesman said on Thursday.

Security forces captured militant preacher Mohammed Yusuf, whose Boko Haram sect has been responsible for clashes which have killed more than 180 people in recent days, after a manhunt involving military helicopters and armed police.

A Reuters reporter saw Yusuf at a military barracks in the northern city of Maiduguri after his capture. Yusuf had no visible

Well this has to be shortest militant offensive in recent years. Usually the leaders aren't killed ever, but this guy didn't even last a week.

As the War on Terror progresses it seems that the career choice of Terrorist is one of very short duration. Hope the young people in his movement are distraught enough to make different choices in the future.

Yes the military forces were very effective and useful in crushing the uprising, which should deter any uppity serfs from demanding greater rights, lest they be labeled a terrorist and summarily killed.

Hopefully in the future the younger generation realizes that they cannot fight for greater rights with explosives...that type of negotiation is called extortion.

Summary executions seems to be the new normal; the world should brace for it. Someone has taken off the gloves; hope everyone truely believes their way is right.

This Sect was hardly demanding "greater rights", but was rather credited with the abduction of hundreds of women and children from across Nigeria and was hell bent on installing Sharia Law across the whole of Nigeria, which would obviously be infringing on the rights of the Christian South.

Well... the references to this so far are that the women and children were 'kidnapped' (quotation marks carefully added by the media)

There's an tally out there of 200 women and children 'rescued' and 200 followers, most likely men (husbands?) killed.

Agreed that if they expect to go up against the Christan south they can expect an backlash.

They must really hate the government enough to go up against it with bows and machetes though, which would make this 'victory' seem rather one-sided and not all that revealing.

Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries in Africa, thanks to oil, and the government actively influences elections, which tends me to wonder who the good guys really are... The crazy Taliban or the corrupt Government.

Besides battles are still going on, this game isn't over.

Unfortunately the reality is that the government will not listen to people because they don't have to, no matter the screaming and pleading that people can do, as long as there are limitations to their protests, like not screaming too loudly, not protesting in certain places, not protesting during certain times, and not using media to protest, lest they be labeled an homegrown terrorist or domestic threat.

Their mindset is: 'What can these serfs do to us? We control the media, the military, the police, the financial system, and we can use it against them.'

They shalt reap what they sow.

This whole story is about poor and uneducated people going to extreme lengths to fight against a thoroughly corrupt government. I suggest this small group did not know the current meaning of the word 'Taliban' and the ramifications of declaring themselves as such.

Rather than arresting and prosecuting them, the government slaughtered these people. The moment they called themselves Taliban they were dead men walking. No Western government is going to accuse the Nigerian government of human rights violations.

There are numerous groups in the Christian south that kidnap, kill, blackmail and commit piracy. There victims are often foreigners especially Westerners and it has been going on for years yet the government does not conduct mass killings against them.

What is going on in Nigeria is sectarian violence and is on a tit for tat basis;

Christian mobs riot in Nigeria

By Bethany Duemler
Co-Editor National/World News

Almost a week of religious and political dissent has left Nigeria with a death toll reaching around 100 by Wednesday. Official numbers have not been released because of the government?s fear of sparking more riots, according to the BBC. Christian mobs, acting in retaliation against anti-Christian riots over the Mohammed caricatures, have rampaged the south of Nigeria, attacking, killing, and burning. In the city of Onitsha, Tuesday and Wednesday?s violence left at least 20 dead, over 300 clubs.calvin.edu...

Disgruntled Groups Threaten More Kidnappings in Nigeria's Oil-Rich Delta
By Gilbert da Costa

Youths in Southern Bayelsa state of Nigeria who freed eight foreign oil workers they held for three days on Sunday, say they may strike again if the understanding reached with the oil company is not implemented. Gilbert da Costa in this report for VOA takes a look at the tenuous relationship between oil companies in Nigeria and host communities.

After endless debates concerning the notion of right and wrong or good and evil...I learned that it is a pointless endeavor. Both on these forum's and more importantly in the outside world.

All that matters is the Truth and the Truth is not with these so-called Islamic movements and as they make false accusations, claim as their own that which belongs to another they will be wiped out on every front they appear. For all those who don't know the truth understand this analogy...Abraham is not married to Hagar and the two have no Son together; this is the truth.

No matter how ugly this is about to become...nothing will save the lives of these types of groups. They are totally without hope...only surrender can save them.

Ahh! That zionofascistic old lark. But what has the ancestry of Arabs got to do with a bunch of Christian evangelist nuts and Taliban wannabes having a go at each other?

Finally who do you want to surrender to Jesus, rioting Christian Nigerians or rioting Muslim Nigerians? You are a bit vague since both groups are obviously as bad as each other.

In every case...Governments are created in the image of the people. To control the Governments, you have to control the structure of the households. If you control who's married to whom and the composition of the family, by extension you control the outcome of all elections and the eventual composition of the Government. The free and fair Democratic Process is designed specifically to achieve this very outcome; to produce a representative government.

In this task, the Strategic Goal of this war, Islam has failed and that is why their armies are being swept from the battlefield one after the other.

When this war began they were inside the house and in a controling position and very nearly overthrew the entire world order by implementing the Abraham/Hagar/Ishmael Strategic Model and imposing their Sharia Law which would have been like a heavy chain around the necks of every human on the planet, but over time they have been pushed outside. First they were in the backyard, but now they are out in the woods outside of town. Because a different model emerged; a model not at all supportive of their aspirations.

What the events in Nigeria have showed is that the Nigerian Islamic militant leader has no one within the Government that could have prevented the shelling of his home, the destruction of his mosque and his eventual execution. The police obviously don't have any concern as to the consequences of their actions today because no one with any clout is going to speak-up on the dead man's behalf. It'll be investigated, a finding supporting the police will be issued and that'll be the end of it

Its happening everywhere...Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia...where even in their traditional strongholds they are not effectively waging war and just barely hanging on.

The actual battle space is somewhat more complex and difficult to explain and even suggests that the Muslims may still have a chance but its not very likely to be useful to them and they should surrender...to the Laws of their land and the agreements which they have made and are expected to uphold.

I can see what you say about the insanity of religious fanaticism, but the ultimate model that has been implemented is neither the Abraham/Hagar (Islam) or the Abraham/Sarah (Judeo/Christian), but a third more powerful model that doesn't have a religion associated with it. Many Christians would be well advised to not take the upcoming destruction of the Muslim terror groups to mean that they can just go about doing as they please and that they must also uphold the law.

Nigeria is a lost cause. The streets run like sewers and the country hasn't been free of strife for 50 years. Zimbabwe and Angola are going to end up the same way. It's very unfortunate because they do have enough natural resources to become great nations on their own. They are pawns in the game now and unless they can get rid of the tribal warfare they will continue to die. Health care is nonexistent. Disease is rampant!
