Man bursts into flames after being hit by Taser

www.teleg raph.co.uk

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported he had suffered third degree burns to his face, arms and chest. Morinda West, Mr Marshall's sister, told the Australian he was sniffing petrol in his mother's house at the Goldfields Aboriginal community when police banged on the door and asked him to come out.

He went to the front of the house with a lighter and a two-litre orange juice container full of petrol, she said. "He must have put petrol on his face, then the policeman shot him with the Taser, that's when the flames happened." she said.

Sheesh... Here's a taser story you don't hear every day. An aborigine man, for whatever reason was snorting GAS? Then gets lit up by the local LE and goes up in flames.

Sounds like something straight out of a horror movie. I don't even know what to think on this one...Definitely a sad story and a bizarre one to boot.

That is crazy.

Maybe the cops should have thought a little more about using the tazer? Common sense dictates that gas with an electrical device is bound to be a bad combination. That is the way the internal combustion engine works.

Of course you know what they say, common sense isn't so common. This is a horrible story though.

The article doesn't mention why the officers resulted in tazing him, but it did mention that they knew in advance they were huffing petrol, which should have been a tipoff not to add electricity to the equation.

On a related note, huffing gas is probably one of the absolute dumbest things you could do to your body. While that guy probably didn't deserve to get tazed, the burns are his fault for exposing himself to such dangers in a crude attempt to get high. The cops should have used some more sense, but in my experience sense is something police officers are sorely lacking.
