Anu is the Sumerian sky-god. Anu was also worshiped in later days by the Babylonians and the Assyrians. Anu is considered to be the God of the heavens, constellations, the king of gods and as aforementioned the Sky god. It was commonly believed a long time ago that he was a force that would judge people and that his enforcers were the stars which he had created, they were his soldiers. Anu was considered the oldest and wisest of the triad, which consisted of Anu, Enlil and Enki. Since he was the most loved he was announced as the king of all the gods at some time in past history.

The coming of three gods consisting near enough the 4 elements was a big thing to all. They were worshiped and thought of as all powerful. To all Sumerians they must of been popular in all circles. As aforementioned, Anu, is seen as the king of the Gods and worshiped as such, yet in certain texts he is seen more as a symbol than an actual acting force. A lot of deities in Sumeria were given female companions yet Anu did not have one, which does make him stand out in mythology.
