At Crespo's trial two years ago, Perino stated emphatically that he never interviewed the suspect before his aunt and mother had arrived at the 44th Precinct station house. Prosecutors were blindsided during the 2007 trial when Crespo's lawyers introduced the MP3 recording as evidence.

Great stuff! A 17 year old recorded a police officer illegally questioning him with an MP3 player. Good thinking on his part.

The officer later tried to lie about the interview, but soon learned that he had been recorded. He is now charged with perjury.

Justice prevails...sometimes.

At 17 it depends on the state. In GA, at 17 your NOT a minor when you commit or are suspected of a crime, soooo mommy & daddy don't have to be present for questioning. Plus at 17 you DO go to "big boy" jail when arrested.

No...thats not the issue here.

He said he didnt question the suspect before the family arrived.

Lie.
Perjury.

Poisons everything else in the case.

Excellent.

This police officer would make a great used car salesman.

No, it doesn't poison everything in the case, it just makes the cop a liar. Now the issue here would be if he read the kid his Miranda Rights before questioning him, did the kid ask for council, and did the cop follow state and departmental proceedures when it comes to questioning juveniles. Now you get into the whole case being poisoned.

That's some signature you've chosen.

Well some people DON'T sleep "peacably" in there beds, because "Rough" men stand ready to do the violence. And don't kid yourself that you are doing it for the people. YAWN.

Also, if you think a police officer who disinforms & trys to set up a 17 year old is something that makes decent people sleep easy, you are doubly deluded!
