For 7½ years, Lakhdar Boumediene was known simply by a number: "10005."

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Boumediene said the interrogators at Gitmo never once asked him about this alleged plot, which he denied playing any part it.

This guy worked to help orphans and there was never any case to point him as a terroist.

So I don't think he would lie in his statements.

There's the efficiency of torture!
It's not even about finding the truth and they know it.

How any country can do this and then go round saying they want peace is beyond me.

All over the world this stuff is going on. It just makes you wonder what sort of people do these things, and why the people that do these things are not in a mental hospital if they do not understand that it is torture.

I blame hollywood for totally stupifying the general public down to levels where they do not understand what is wrong, and that america really is not the country that hollywood portrays.

If you do not like someone in this world, just ring up the americans and they will kill or torture those people for you. This is something that is true.

Sounds to me like this guy was one of people the US picked up overseas who just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time!

Many Held at Guantanamo Not Likely Terrorists

The United States is holding dozens of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay who have no meaningful connection to Al Qaeda or the Taliban, and were sent to the maximum-security facility over the objections of intelligence officers in Afghanistan who had recommended them for release, according to military sources with direct knowledge of the matter.

At least 59 detainees -- nearly 10% of the prison population at the U.S. Navy base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba -- were deemed to be of no intelligence value after repeated interrogations in Afghanistan. All were placed on "recommended for repatriation" lists well before they were transferred to Guantanamo Bay, a facility intended to hold the most hardened terrorists and Taliban suspects.

Dozens of the detainees are Afghan and Pakistani nationals described in classified intelligence reports as farmers, taxi drivers, cobblers and laborers. Some were low-level fighters conscripted by the Taliban in the weeks before the collapse of the ruling Afghan regime.

None of the 59 met U.S. screening criteria for determining which prisoners should be sent to Guantanamo Bay, military sources said. But all were transferred anyway, sources said, for reasons that continue to baffle and frustrate intelligence officers nearly a year after the first group of detainees arrived at the facility.

"There are a lot of guilty [people] in there," said one officer, "but there's a lot of farmers in there too."

Sure, some of the detainees may have been hardened terrorists when they were brought to Guantanamo Bay, but a lot of the detainees shouldn't have ever have been brought there!

It sure sounds like this guy was one of the "unlucky" ones!

This is more liberal claptrap.

A detainee from Gitmo will become a hero to the American left because they are fluent in self hatred of their country.

After 9/11 nobody knew what was coming next and people who do things that you never hear about to protect this country didn't have the luxury of living in a liberal fantasy land.

It's easy to be self-righteous behind a computer or from Washington D.C. but when you're job is to protect this country and you're faced with people who think it's their God given duty to destroy this country, it becomes an either or situation. Either you get the info or Americans die.

It amazes me how the left loves anything that's anti-American but if these socialist and fascist that they love were in control then their freedoms would be gone and they would be crying.

This case I am sure is only the first of many we will hear of. These policies must be changed not glossed over, as long as renditions are legal, nothing changes.

Did you not even bother to read the other posts in this thread? Likely not, you saw a conservative talk point, and flew off the leash. Also, in this context, you confuse "Your" with "You're". The second is a conjunction meaning "you are", and the former shows possession.

Terrorists use the Red Crescent as cover all the time. Just ask Hamas.

Why doesn't ABC interview all the detainees who, once released, wen't back to being terrorists? There are plenty. THAT would be interesting TV.

So just because he says he wasn’t working for Al-Qaida and he was just working to help out orphans, does that mean he is telling the truth? Don’t jump to take his word on it. While he may not have been caught in the act of something you only end up at gitmo if you’re the worst of the worst. Kind of Like Congress.

If ABC did interview detainees who went back to the front after be released that would legitimize the need for Gitmo. Of Course the lefty-loons can not allow that now can they?

The liberals will take every word of the detainees as truth. They will accuse our troops and those on the front lines of lying but these guys are telling the absolute truth. This is because of the hate America first mentality but many of these people couldn't last a day under Castro, Chavez or living under radical Islam.

I have been in a life or death situation. There's no time to live in theory when your faced with death. Liberals want to live in fantasy land. This is easy to do behind a computer or eating hundred dollar a pound kobe beef in Washington. It's different when you are face to face with life or death and thousands of Americans can be dead if you don't act.

Yeah it's all just a liberal conspiracy! The undeniable torture and now rape, detaining innocent men, invading innocent countries, and completely subverting the freedom America stood for is all the liberals fault. If they would just stop questioning, thinking, or talking about all the evil things the United States does both domestically and abroad, the world would be a much better place. Also how dare we consider these people we have in confinement to be any sort of human being. They're brown and they're muslim, therefore they don't have the right to an opinion or to share their experience.
