Obama: 'US one of the largest Muslim Countries in the World'

www.americanthinker.com

In an interview with Laura Haim on Canal Plus, a French television station, Mr. Obama noted that the United States also could be considered as "one of the largest Muslim countries in the world." He sought to downplay the expectations of the speech, but he said he hoped the address would raise awareness about Muslims.

Is this just another one of many gaffs by Obama, is he really stupid or intentionally being disengenuous to pander to countries in the Middle East? I find this comment absolutely bizzare to say the least.

What's even more baffling is recently Obama stated that the U.S. is NOT a Catholic nation yet today he believes we are a Muslim nation.

The U.S. is like 27 countries behind regarding a Muslim population so what on Earth is he talking about?

I don't think he is stupid, but he is assured that the American's are far from intelligent given the previous history and laws introduced upon its citizens without any threat or issue.

He is only taking it to the next level.

Speaking as a Muslim . . .

This guy stuns me.

The last time I saw so many missteps, it was my first latin dance lesson at Fred Astaire studios.

This was his attempt to try and ease hatred towards the USA by saying there is a large population of muslims here..which there isn't by percentage...but there are millions here nonetheless.

And by doing that he's saying don't blow us up...we are not all of the same beliefs in the USA...in which he is correct.

Read between the lines.

What's the most screwed up is that we are still fighting in 3 countries which contradicts what he is stating.

We need to get out of these countries.

A distraction? Possibly...and you can blame certain media pundits for running with it and making it as such.

In the meantime we are still funding a war that we don't have the money for as we bankrupt our country into poverty.

I think Barry has caught foot-in-mouth disease from Joe Biden. On the Biden gaff scale, this is about a 40. Come on Joe, you can't let Barry out-biden you now.

Why? Because it's not about Bush.

It always seemed news worthy everytime Bush made a retarded comment.

who cares about religion man

The majority of Americans.
But this is not about religion. It's about Obama making intentionally disengenuous comments yet its ok because he is the Messiah.

Obviously Obama does.

Otherwise he wouldn't be given a Muslim speech.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Well, nothing about Obama surprises me anymore. I actually feel sorry for him now.

But maybe Obama (and his administration) needs to learn how to "google"

TOP 50 MUSLIM COUNTRIES

I do not even see the United States of America on there

Well, for whatever it is worth - I did find this:

en.wikipedia.org...

There is no accurate count of the number of Muslims in the United States, as the U.S. Census Bureau does not collect data on religious identification. There is an ongoing debate as to the true size of the Muslim population in the US. Various institutions and organizations have given widely varying estimates about how many Muslims live in the U.S. These estimates have been controversial, with a number of researchers being explicitly critical of the survey methodologies that have led to the higher estimates.[35] Others claim that no scientific count of Muslims in the U.S. has been done, but that the larger figures should be considered accurate.[36] Some journalists have also alleged that the higher numbers have been inflated for political purposes.[37] On the other hand, some Muslim groups blame Islamophobia and the fact that many Muslims identify themselves as Muslims but do not attend mosques for the lower estimates.[38]

The following are a few of these disputed estimates:

1.1 million (2001) City University of New York - American Religious Identification Survey [0.5% of national adult population][39]
1.6 million (2000) Glenmary Research Center [0.5% of national population][40]
1.8 million (2007) 0.6% of population (2007 est.) The World Factbook[41]
1.9 million (2001) American Jewish Committee [0.6% of national population][42]
2.0 million (2000) Hartford Institute for Religious Research [0.7% of national population][43]
2.4 million (2007) Pew Research Center[44][45]
4.7 million (2005) Encyclopædia Britannica Book of the Year [1.5% of national population][46]
6-7 million (2001) Council on American-Islamic Relations - The Mosque in America: A National Portrait[47]
6.7 million (1997) J. Ilyas Ba-Yunus [2.2% of national population][48]
7 to 8 million (2008) Newsweek[49]

Your first source is TOP 50 by percentage.

But you still wouldn't find the US in the top 50 in real numbers.

Islam by country

According to my calculations, we are 55th.

China is 18th.

Russia is 19th.

France is 33rd.

Germany is 51st.

Obama's statement proves he's willing to say anything if he thinks it will buy him support.

He did it domestically and now he is attempting the same elsewhere.

EDIT:

This probably wont format properly, but it's still somewhat readable:

I saw snippets of this interview on BBC news, didn't believe my ears after Googling came up with this.

Now, the flip side is I think that the United States and the West generally, we have to educate ourselves more effectively on Islam.

"And one of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the number of Muslim Americans, we'd be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world. And so there's got to be a better dialogue and a better understanding between the two peoples."

blogs.telegraph.co.uk...

He is not my President but the paying lip service to Islam is happening here in the UK.
Maybe the 'powers that be know the threat of extreme Islam is more of a threat than they tell us and appeasement is the only answer.
