According to new statistics released by the Pentagon, with Barack Obama as commander in chief, there has been a 23% increase in the number of “Private Security Contractors” working for the Department of Defense in Iraq in the second quarter of 2009 and a 29% increase in Afghanistan, which “correlates to the build up of forces” in the country. These numbers relate explicitly to DoD security contractors. Companies like Blackwater and its successor Triple Canopy work on State Department contracts and it is unclear if these contractors are included in the over-all statistics. This means, t

See here's the issue with this
Using mercenaries alter numbers in two ways

1) Number of troops deployed and stationed is low because mercs aren't troops

2) Number of deaths are low too, because they only count deaths if it's troops that died or troops that shot a insurgent or civilian or whatever.
But mercs are completely unaccountable.

This is why using mercs allows numbers that blind the people.

You'll probably see an article on MSNBC one day on how Obama did whatever with so little resources or something, which will be a complete lie.

These articles and sources are all hogwash. Our beloved president would never do such a thing. Obama is going to change everything.

Sorry about that rant. Just a preemptive post to quench the thirst of those who don't realize what is really happening in this country.

Obama will carry out the mission in whatever way possible. More mercs. in Iraq while we deploy more troops to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Someone has to keep the alleged peace.

Obama will do anything he can to keep the Obamatons faithfully following his folly!

It should be apparent these Blackwater types have done a tremendous amount of damage and are not well thought of by the troops.

Go easy, most of these guys wind up in the fetal position, shivering in a corner, with a latte in one hand, and an Ipod in another, muttering "yyyeeessss weeee caaannn", when they find out what it was they elected. But that's only if they have a shred of common sense within them, and obviously many of them are either lacking it, or simply don't have it.

But never an Obamatron. You should know the person before you insult them. You attack someone who is mostly politically center right while defending someone who is about as far left as one could get.

Why would I want evidence of the other charges you pose, there is already plenty that I have seen to support those claims. If you want you can post them too, I really don't care. I haven't seen evidence of steroid abuse and want to see evidence of such a claim.

I guess wanting evidence of an accusation is a no no.

I don't really see this as "dirt" DD. I don't think it's any different that any other administration.

I really don't appreciate some of the broad-stroke generalities that occur in this thread -- labeling contractors/mercs and such. Sometimes they are the folks that do for the government what needs to be done, what is required, but can't be officially sanctioned.

My observation is there have been jerks in all walks of life, and I haven't seen them relegated to the enlisted ranks, nor private contractors.

It's kind of surprising that this kind of news comes to light..... now, I mean. It's not like it's the first time in American history that it's been done.

I kinda got the notion some 30 years ago that mercs were contracted also for particularly hazardous duties, wherein it was advisable to have a paid specialist corps.

[edit to add] ummmmmmmm just me, I suppose, but labels like "Obamatron" really don't do much for me in the way of impressing the depth of someone's critical thinking skills. Most of the time, just results in a likewise slur being tossed back. Baiting. We can like or dislike people with all our diverse political positions in a manner that is more inviting of discussion. I called out W for his mistakes and the lies he told. I support President Obama, because he is my President for better or worse, but I will call him out also.

You made the claim but did not provide proof. I googled it and found that blackwater did indeed fire 140 employees for violation of company policy. What that violation pertained to was never released.

By the way, those 140 employees were not part of the group that was the result of the civil lawsuit that was filed.

That story was from 2007 as was all the stories concerning the topic. So far all it was is speculation with no proof. If you have a specific link you want me to check out that provides proof then by all means post it and I will check it out.

I always thought it was the corporations that ran mercs in Iraq, and not the US government.

pretty sure majority of those mercs will be guarding oil fields and such.

With violence reducing and troops spending less time outside the greenzone walls im pretty sure the mercs are merely protection.

Unless there driving around shooting up traffic intersections.

Every single member of congress and the senate and every president for the last 40+ years have been told what to say, what to do and where to go. Obama is not running nothing but his mouth. The same with Bush. We are given this illusion of republican vs Democrat but many are waking up to the reallity that it's all a big show. Did you know that over 95% of the people of the United States wrote, emailed or called there congressmen and told them to not bailout the banks but it was done anyway.

The state dept. with the backing of the cooperations have those contractors and mercs over there and Obama doesn't have a thing to do with it. Were fighting shadows folks. The people who are actually running the show we never see.

A 23% increase in combat forces is not LEAVING IRAQ. Just because he's doing it with Mercenaries doesn't mean we're not keeping score. Another lie, there will be no end to this stupid, irresponsible war.
