Fibers can defend against water terrorism

Israeli scientists say they have developed a technology that can monitor the safety of a building's or community's water supplies to detect chemoterrorism.

To defend against contamination, as well as pollution caused by industrial spillage, natural disaster or sabotage, Katzir and his team created special fibers that can detect "colors" in the infrared spectrum that distinguish between pure and contaminated water.

This is pretty cool. If a major water supply were to get contaminated the S would HTF. While this wouldn't protect against attacks on water supplies, it would differentiate between drinkable and contaminated water. That in and of itself would lessen the impact of an emergency involving water, no matter how the supply came to be contaminated. Neat stuff.

You can drink your own urine. I've done it myself but not yet on a prolonged survival mode...

Not sure if you're seriously dehydrated and your urine is dark yellow if that will work..

Because knowing water is contaminated is fine. If all water around has been contaminated, that's another story..
