I quit after 35-odd years and immediately started to pack it on even though my eating habits didn't change. Made me nuts...I gotta keep quitting? Now it's food, too? No Fair!

Park that right up there with the fact that aspartame makes you HUNGRY?!

Life ain't right.

For those who didn't bother to read the full article

However, that doesn't mean that weight gain after smoking cessation is simply a matter of genetics. The relationship between smoking and weight is "undoubtedly complex," the researchers write, and likely involves modifiable factors like diet and exercise.

Note that they don't say that "Smoking makes thinner" it says that it might be *one* of the factors.

When it comes to smokers, I know a lot of them.

Most know of the ''possible'' conditions that they might suffer from but:
o They either don't actually realize the implications
o They just don't care (They may not be fine but I am, that's all that matters)

And I think the addiction factor might be part of this. Of course you might say you're not addicted but many people say so, until they find a lack of their ''enjoyment'' suddenly starts to become extremely stressful.

Oh well, it's your own decision really. (too bad because a girl I like smokes lol, I just hope she doesn't start to get addicted since she only smokes on occassion at the moment.)

As for second hand smoke, If someone is standing somewhere, and you go stand next to them and start smoking, I think it is nothing more than polite to go out of their way if the smoke is annoying for them. It's a public place yes, but how would you feel if I would open my mouth next to you and you'd be smelling sewer-waste all the time.

I just switched over to an Ecig.

Thus far, no cravings, no withdrawl.....and best yet....NO SMOKING!!!

I'm aiming to join that movement with my expected tax return money soon.

finally.. a cancer-less alternative.

I'll more likely use it as a method to help me to stop using nicotine altogether.

like.. stop smoking .. and replace it with lots of exersize.. but if I need a smoke with cofee or a drink REAL bad.. I'll just use the e-cig.. instead of caving and buying a ppack.

I wish I never started.

It's truly a scourge.
It's a love/hate relationship... me and the cig.

Thats exactly how I feel. I know damn well I'm addicted and have tried everything to stop but end right back where I started......down at the store buying a pack of smokes!!

In my opinion, the e cig is possibly the greatest invention ever created for smokers.

I smoke and I seem to gain plenty of weight. Any smokers here want some?

And I can confirm that yes, smoking makes beer taste wonderful. It's a funny old world...

From the article.

Researchers have pointed to various potential reasons for the weight gain that often follows smoking cessation. People who quit may start to eat more, for example, while at the same time losing the metabolism boost that NICOTINE provides.
