Iran plans to air US-style TV election debate

The Iranian interior ministry's election committee has accepted a proposal from the state-run broadcaster, IRIB, to stage candidates' debates before the country's presidential election on 12 June.

Aides to Iran's president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is seeking a second term, have welcomed the plan, possibly in the belief that the ability to think quickly on his feet demonstrated in press conferences and TV interviews would make him a formidable debater.

Ok who's going to watch ? Want to bet CNN is in talks with this IRIB for rights to broadcast these debates ? You just know they would eat this up


Wonder if that female candidate will still be running ? They seem to know how T.V works .

This will be very interesting to see who all will carry this .

If Ahmadinejad wants to make sure he win , he needs to do more than just borrow the TV election style from the americans , he should rent a few Diebold electronic voting machines off them as well.
