You have a Sun Halo i am guessing, nothing strange about that, it also happens with the moon aswell. We have a saying that if the moon has a halo
around it, it will rain the next day. Not sure if its true but seeing as most sun and moon halo's are caused by ice crystals in the troposhere it may
hold some weight.
It does not matter about what it was like last year really, each halo is different whenever they occur, and each has different properties as in to
what created it. True it might not be a common sight but its still a beautiful one. I say enjoy it and if you can grab a picture and upload it. Just
be sure you block the sun out so you dont damage your camera.
