Zawahri tells Muslims not to be fooled by Obama

DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda's second-in-command told Muslims not to be fooled by U.S. President Barack Obama's policies which, he said on an Islamist website on Monday, are no different to those of his predecessor, George W. Bush.

"America came to us with a new face, with which it is trying to fool us. He is calling for change, but (he aims) to change us so that we abandon our religion and rights," Ayman al-Zawahri said in an audio recording on the website.

Talk about someone out of the loop, while the President has continued some of the work started by the previous Pres, Obama has started to change the way we are approaching the issues pertaining to terrorism.

Withdrawal from Iraq, closing of Guantanamo, refocusing on Afghanistan etc, are certainly changes.

So, is Zawahri blowing smoke to keep up support for their efforts?

As usual the truth probably lies beneath the layers of info tossed around by both sides.

What did he change on our views of terrorism, that their no longer terrorists, but "Enemy Combatants".

He hasn't closed Guantanomo, which is still doesnt have a plan on what to do with the people.

Refocusing on Afghanistan, but living armies in Iraq, also refocusing on (Pakistan!)

Like he said, these policies didn't work under Bush, Maybe we'll give Obama a try and she if they work there. So far so good.

I think his speech reaks of depseration. He knows that if Obama does live up to his promises and initiates meaningful change in the Middle East, his group will no longer have a foundation to stoke terrorism and totalitarian Islamic law.
