TWIC - A Backdoor Real ID Card

Lowell Rogers has been an engineer on a brownwater tugboat for 23 years. But starting April 2009, thanks to the Maritime Safety Act, Lowell's employer will have to assume he's a potential terrorist, unless he has a Transportation Worker Identification Credential -- a TWIC card.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) wants you to have a Real ID card that's very similar to the TWIC card. But DHS is failing to implement the Real ID because state governments are resisting. Twenty one states ar

The President has issued a presidential directive, HSD12, aiming to force all federal employees AND CONTRACTORS to carry a Smart Card. This means government employees and contractors will be the first part of the herd they pick-off. There are 1.8 million federal employees, excluding elected officials, the military, and employees of the Postal Service. But it won't end there.

DHS is also attempting to impose Smart Cards on truckers and railroad workers, covering another 3.5 million workers. And the maritime/TWIC portion of the strategy will apply to about 700,000 workers.

Does anyone know anything more about this?

TWIC escort emphasized as nationwide enforcement begins

With at least tens of thousands of drivers yet to enroll in the Transportation Worker Identification Credential program, Uncle Sam is enhancing enrollment efforts and encouraging ports to escort non-credentialed truck drivers and other port workers until at least mid-May.

I read will need a real ID card for boarding commercially operated airline flights , entering federal buildings and nuclear power plants.

The Real ID law is touted by Homeland Security officials deceptively for anticrime and antiterror.

I’m not sure if there is an RFIC chip inside or simply a two-dimensional barcode . Here in Washington State, as most states they are doing the same by adding a chip to our drivers license.

This can also be used as a passport.. I’m glad mine doesn’t expire until 2012.

I also read the real ID act may require gun owners to have the real ID card to purchase guns. They are also adding micro coding to ammo soon and already done in some states. See here.

I'm opposed to such laws but they are already in place. You would think we would have the right to vote on this stuff.

I just did a job at the Port of long Beach and the facility I worked at has numerous signs that state you will not be allowed to enter this facility after Apr 19th if you have not received your TWIC card. This also goes for the folks that work in refineries. This is new to me but in my business you see how corrupt all the training and drug testing is. But if you don't do it their way you will not work in those industries. I really doubt anyone will question this, they will probably say, great were safer now.
