Dad turns cardboard boxes into solar oven
When Jon Bohmer sat down with his two little girls for a simple project they could work on together, he didn't realize they'd hit upon a solution to one of the world's biggest problems for just $5: A solar-powered oven. full story

This could be really amazing. Great guy to give the design away for free as this could help millions in third world countries.

What am I missing here? Solar ovens have been around as long as man. Cub Scouts make them. An awful lot of campers use them. Kids in Africa toss their plastic bottles of water onto metal roofs to sterilize the water.

What's special here?

The Cub Scouts didn't decided to mass-produce them and distribute them to people in developing countries, who actually need them, as a means of boiling water and cooking.

This has huge implications, and could solve some major problems in regards to economic development.
