No accord at UN talks on N Korea

An emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss North Korea's rocket launch has ended without agreement.

As divisions emerged diplomats said the council would continue talks, but it may take days for a deal, analysts say.

Washington and Tokyo are seeking a strong response, but Beijing and Moscow have called for restraint.

Pyongyang says it launched a satellite early on Sunday but its neighbours say it was testing missile technology.

'Clear-cut violation'

The US, South Korea and Japan have all condemned the launch from the Musudan-ri base in the north-east of the communist country.

"Clear-cut violation" my ass.

Not that the UN had much standing in my opinion to begin with, but when the founding member, the United States, effectively told the UN to "GTFO" in so many words over the Security Council's Iraq resolution and just invaded Iraq anyway, shoving every UN panel member aside like an annoying little sister...

That's when the UN became a joke.

And that's why it has absolutely no bearing in my opinion over any country in the world.

The US rabbiting on here about how N. Korea is "defying" the International community only adds to the stunning display of hypocrisy.

So N. Korea and every 3rd world country has to abide by it, even when it concerns something as trivial as their capacity to launch satellites into orbit

But when the United States really wants military action, suddenly there's no act of God that can stop them and the UN doesn't apply.

The UN is another Cold War, vestigial remnant that needs to be done away with
