You get this when police brutality happens with thousands of eye witnesses.

What were they thinking? Is it a off and on switch for officer to enter this state ? Did they realize all the people that were watching it?

That was unnecessary what the cops did and what the fans did. I am serious, the fans stop them from hitting the poor guy and then they turn on the cops? The whole point is not to become what your enemy is. As soon as they got the coips off they should have stopped. But I am not putting all the blame on the cops, that idiot should have not been on the field in the first place and with the recent attacks on soccer players and stadiums and fans, who knows maybe the cops had reason to do what they did. I mean do you know if he had a bomb on him or not, that sort of thing. All in all do not become what you fight against. Disban the situation and end it.

I wish some of the jackboots in America would see that and realize that there are repercussions for all actions.

It makes me think of what could have happened when the police at the G20 tried to kettle in a group of peaceful protesters. Their actions could easily have escalated into an uncontrolled situation where reprisals could have easily turned the tables on the police.

That is just uncalled for on the cops and fans part. The cops had no right to keep hitting him, he was on the ground for heavens sake! The fans didnt need to go any further and start a multi-person brawl. They could have just stopped when they stopped the cops. This is ridiculous! This seems to happen more and more and it really frightens me sometimes. We are supposed to trust them and then they turn on you. BAD! They should be fired for what they did. I am sure there is more than one video of this.

I really would like to know why everyone here seems to think that once the cops have a person pinned to the ground they still cannot be struggling and resisting arrest?

Oh Yeah, 4 large trained officers against 1 guy with a sign. Those poor poor officers probably needed 4 more to properly subdue him huh?

Give me a break!

1 knee pressing the side of the head into the ground by a 180 lb person will subdue just about anybody. Pounding the guy was totally uncalled for. Bet they'll think twice before doing that again!

Of course, in the future, the officers will probably just taser or shoot them!

That's sick. I noticed that the cop who was hitting the guy ran off and the one who got beat up was the one who looked like he was telling the other cop to stop.

This is just a microcosm of what we may see in the future as our government continues to apply unnecessary compulsion against the citizens in many nations.

Uh, actually being pinned does not stop a person from struggling, especially if they are intoxicated or on some other illicit substance. How the police are trained to get you into cuffs is by striking the nerve to make the person lose control for long enough for the other officer to position the hands into cuffs. There is a spot on your leg, for example, called the Common Peroneal Nerve which when struck makes your leg muscles lose control for a few seconds. To someone not trained in Defensive Tactics this probably looks like the police just hitting someone for no reason, but the reason is to cause momentary loss of control allowing the other officer to place on handcuffs.

Definitely excessive on everyone's part.
Sometimes, getting the cuffs on a suspect can be very difficult. Joint manipulation, pressure points, striking the shoulder blade, upper arm and muscle, are often used to manipulate the arms to a position, where the cuffs can be applied on a resistant person. Depending on their level of influenced state. IE: drugs or alcohol.

Punching in the face, isn't really a "tool". As it looked like that also could have been the attempt here.

Man, I only wish that the crowd stopped as soon as they got the cops to stop. When we turn on them and beat them up, we become the very thing that we are fighting to stop.

We can not allow our selves to become that. We must find a way to show that we will not allow police brutality, with out brutalizing the police our selves.

If the crowd stopped when the cops backed off, I would be so pround right now, instead I am dissapointed. I just watched a crowd of people do the very thing that they were trying to stop. What a shame.

What a shame for both the cops and the crowd. They both lost.

Sorry, but I am trained in defensive tactics, and I understand what you are saying regarding pressure points. Most of the time though, you immobilize the head & the body follows, unless the unlucky subject wants serious injury. Plus grinding the face into the dirt can be a real eye opener.

The only struggle this guy was giving the 4 officers may have been his hands. You can clearly see in the video his legs are not moving.

I once witnessed a 120 lb female officer subdue a 200+ pound crack head with nothing more than her baton, which she never hit him with, by applying a carotid restraint hold. No punching involved & he was soon just like a sleeping 200 lb baby!

More than likely the subject was spewing verbal garbage at the officer which prompted the beating, or he was just inexperienced and got caught up in the moment.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against all officers. Some of them just get caught up in the excitement and lose control. Others are just looking for an opportunity to pound someone.

On a side note, I wonder what the sign said?

Look this guy shouldn't have been on the feild. The real issue is the reaction of these officers who are suppose to SERVE and PROTECT.

People in this world are getting very angry at others who possess power and abuse it. People are not going to take it anymore. Damn right they got what they deserved!

This world is a MESS because of people like those police officers. The people that run things on this planet are no exception. They possess the same reckless disregard for the people they are suppose to be serving.

The world is mess because the reactions by people get us into bigger than the original mess. Do we know what was going on in that pile? The officers obviously served and protected, they did there job, did they use excessive force possibly, but do we know what was happening in there? and if they were, the fans should have stopped, and attended to the injured man, but nope they kept fighting and became what they were fighting against. The circle continues until someone actually thinks before they act.

If you look closely, he wasn't punching, he was using a PR-24. That is essentially a night-stick with a 6 inch handle about 6 inches from one end. They can cause extreme pain from jabbing and very easily break bones when swung correctly.

There are alternatives though. Utilization of pressure points will bring almost anyone down, and escort tactics such as the "goose neck" works beautifully.

When I previously worked a certain type of security, we were authorized a +1 variation to control the situation. That means whatever tactics used by the perpetrator, we could add 1 level to that to control the situation. In the situation where the cops had the man under control and his hands cuffed/zip-tied, they should have stood him up and walked him off.

As it was, the cops shouldn't be surprised at mob mentality. One cop's mistake walked him directly into that bad position.

It was the players who stopped the cops.
Where was this by the way?

I have seen so many cases of police brutality and out right criminal acts in the name of Serve and Protect that it doesn't surprise me that people intervened the way they did.

No one wants to be some police punching bag, and frankly more people need to intervene when police carry out brutality against the citizenry they swore to protect and defend.

Not that I agree with violence but police brutality has to stop period.

Obviously not all police are violent maniacs, but some really honestly are and need to be routed out of their role as a police officer.

I know its fun to jump on the “the cops are bad guys” band wagon and all, but please guys review the video closer.

IF the guy was subdued and they had his hands in a compliant position to be cuffed, then why does his hand show up between the cops legs at 00:21 into the video?

Because he is resisting, pulling his hands away from the cuffs.
The cop is hitting him in the bicep to gain control of his arm.
