I loved that "hacker ethics." Thanks for linking that. I learned some things. I thought hackers were crackers. Now I know better.

Yes, when you read the ethics, you can clearly see why the corporate sorts need them gone. Lol. Cant have people sharing for the good of all and doing work purely for the love of it. Heresy.

Interesting post

The period of world war 1 and starting in 1914 is a period that began the darkest days for humanity. Even the fed which was planned in 1913 wasn't passed until the very end of 1913 when everybody was away on holidays, wasn't chartered until the following year 1914 and implemented across the country.

Has anyone else considered just creating another network that does essentially the same thing? Everyone controls their own node on the network - no ISP, no regulation, etc. Just a bunch of private networks linked up. We could still potentially have all of the same things that we enjoy on today's internet.

I think in a fan-hitting scenario, that's one thing I would be looking into. It's not hard to setup web servers, voice chat/messaging, etc. Just need enough people interested to make it work. The only problem would arise when connecting between long distances. Short term, we could still have nodes around the country that could provide dial-up access. It would be a step back in technology for some, but a step forward in freedom for everyone.

@Illusionsaregrander THX for your reply.

I don't think that they would shut down the inet and switch to inet2 so fast.

You should get some news from Europe: The German goverment has developed a trojan which is ment to spy on private entities (and maybe small enterprises). They are only waiting until the new EU-contracts, which give them the right to do so, are signed. (Ireland is still against it!). Rumors say that it should be spread over Europe after it has successfully been testet in Germany. (Could this also affect the US? I think so.)

If the US-gov really has 3*10^6 attacks a day there would be a few successful ones every day. The infos crackers (most of them also believe that INFORMATION MUST BE FREE) find there would be spread over usenet (and then over inet).

I think the mighty ones just don't like our freedom of speech.

all hail the dreaded evil internet as it is the last free bastion of freedom of speech and information as it is the harbinger of the destruction of all of the shadow peoples lies and deceptions. where else can you get the absolute truth directly from the horses mouth instead of having it whitewashed to seem as if they the guilty ones did no wrong.ask the papers what is the truth, it is as they were told to write it and not that which we seek -truth and knowledge-
remember the scene in good morning Vietnam censorship is illegal as it takes away our basic right of freedom to all information-file papers under the freedom of information act and see just how much information you really get -NOTHING- as the truth is all blacked out for you as we don`t seem to be able to handle the truth by their lies . correct me if i`m wrong but is this not the generations of the great age of information and is not our computer the way to ride the greatest of information highways, wow what a trip.
oh that`s right we once said NO- to the man and they didn`t like it as we finally started to stand up for our selves and the man retaliated by shooting us on our university campuses-and these orders came from our leaders, and were carried out by our own soldiers in our cities and the long arm of the law turned a blind eye to it all -and we dare call this freedom -it`s called -POLICE STATE-not FREEDOM.anyone who thinks otherwise is brain dead and needs to go back to school.
the only threat that there is to NATIONAL SECURITY is that there is none ,as it is all in their brain dead paranoid schizophrenic little minds .
Dr. Sigmund Freud called it...FEAR
or..TERROR
i belive that they have medicine for this condition of theirs.

Knowledge is power.

Therefore, controlling knowledge is the new war. It is the new thing to hoard. If you cannot hoard it, pollute it so no one else can have it easy.

Toffler was right.

Yes - well - this is exactly what needs to be done - we need to create a FREENET - that will help spawn a 2nd Rennisance period.

Certainly there is usenet - and there are BBS networks - but this needs to resemble the actual web as it is today (or better) and I believe the only way it can be occomplished is through making it a MAJOR goal of the Open Source movement.

We can do this - but only if we have the Conviction to do it!

Otherwise - like the days before - our communications go back underground - minimizing our newly realized Collective Strength and Power.

I, for one, refuse to let That HAPPEN!!!!!!!

The way is to promote controlling it is to promote that the things most of us hate are using the internet to promote themselves.

I do not think that controlling the 'net completely is the answer to that though.

Controlling the net so that you can stop child predators doesn't make them go away. I would rather that they do the thing that is far more useful and nail every child predator and child porn collector, and nail them hard with full public spectacle.

It is not not there just because it isn't on the net. It just isn't so obvious, so people can lie to themselves more.

Well, it is idealism, and it may be reductionist, but the truth is they OWN it. We CONTROL it. All we ever have to do is say "no" at any given point in time. What keeps us in this situation is a feeling of hopelessness. And, unwittingly, you are spreading that disease.

All we need to do is realize that freedom is NEVER something you "get" from someone. Freedom, (much like enlightenment) is something you already possess. You make yourself "unfree" by seeking it from another. Their permission to have it. When the act of seeking freedom from another is the very thing that binds you.

They "own" the internet. And other resources. But how did that happen? Someone sat down and decided one day that the Earth that once was something we were guests on, children of, and had a right to, should be a possession of some individual. It was an agreement we made that the guy who said "mine" was right. He didnt buy it. He said a word. "Mine." And we all said, "ok" and pretended it was his.

All we have to do is say "No. Not yours." They didnt build it, they dont operate it, and the money that they used to pay for it wasnt the result of their own sweat, it was manipulation of that very same original agreement that things not yours, (the earth, the water, the forests) could just be claimed and sold.

And it goes on til this day, in another thread today I posted on how Bechtel Corp. got the US and World bank backed Bolivian government to enforce their claim that they owned the water. Including rainwater. The Bolivian people said "no." And they won. Sure, they are being punished for it, by being denied loans to develop their water resources, but they at least are not paying someone for something that falls from the sky.

We dont have to live this way. We dont have to be slaves. And all it takes is for more of us to understand that the only thing enslaving us is us. Not them, they just tell us how to enslave ourselves. We are the ones who actually do it.

And the only thing that prevents us from ceasing in this self enslavement is our sense that we can do nothing to prevent it from happening when that is as far from the truth as it is possible to be.

Damn man. That's the most enlightening post I've ever read on ATS, and this place is full of enlightened people.

Awesome brother.

So too is Rothschild and Comex, in fact most of the world's known supply.

Amazingly a lot of the people who own gold choose to just take a certificate for it and leave it Comex's vaults!

Crazy move with what this world is coming too!

He's talking about the security of government institutions, like the pentagon. So why is there any problem? The solution would be to take the government offline. No internet for the gov. Or they can have their own/secure internet.

Sounds like they're trying to figure out how they can legally control the internet and tax it or tax more of it.

Internet = Rice Paper

Hack/Viral = Match

Any sufficiently skilled sociopath programmer can create a virus or a trojan. Imagine what very skilled hackers individuals retained by terrorists or enemy states can do with unlimited resources. It is unthinkable. But, not unlikely.

I and others who know and have been around and worked within the internet for 10 years plus knew this was a potential fire that could get out of control, and we voiced it. Dead ears.

Echelon, Raptor and other state run networks need to do some work on this, and stop tasking for controlling us. Start looking for some of the more insidious viruses like Conficker and use that power for good.

Force IPs to filter, write antivirals and malware defusers that don't at the same time use so much system resources they are worse than the viruses.
Get a clue, this is due!

Good Hackers unite! Collective intelligence can do things we cannot imagine ourselves. Don't leave all the power to moderately skilled disconnected sociopathetics.

This is about our freedom. Bootstrap some planets between your sticks people!

The most recent scare before the Internet Thread we are participating in now was regarding H.R. 1388, having to do with mandatory/volunteered/required Civil Service.

A lot of fellow ATS members starred and commented positively to a copy of the letter I have posted below that I wrote to Senator Mel Martinez who represents Florida and my portion of it in the U.S. Senate.

I am posting this letter again though it can be found easily on the ATS Threads regarding H.R. 1388, to display and highlight that our politicians live in an alternative Universe that we do not. To prove this I am now posting bellow my letter to Senator Martinez the clearly states I am against H.R. 1388, his reply that I received today.

See how he responds to my entreaty, and keep in mind he is one of the big bad Republicans that many imagine want to save us from the big bad Democrats…

…………………………

Dear Senator Martinez,

The new Administration in Washington and the new Congress seated with it are causing many citizens growing alarm and panic with legislation like H.R. 1388 regarding mandatory/volunteer/required Civil Service along with a nationalized central Identification System to promote it and outsourcing it to be run by contracting it’s administration to a non-government Corporation.

The language used in this bill is something I would have never thought or sought to see in the United States of America.

It is unconscionable that the citizen’s elected Representatives have grown so distant from the average American’s thinking, desires and needs that such legislation could even be crafted, let alone co-sponsored, let alone being brought up for a vote.

I urge you Senator as someone who knows all to well the shortcomings and perils to liberty and prosperity that socialism and communism lead too, to not only vote against this bill but to devote as much of your time and focus to encouraging your Senate colleagues to vote against this bill.

Senator Martinez additionally I humbly request you reconsider your decision not to run for a second term in the United States Senate. I can appreciate your published sentiments that as a Republican in the minority, that your ability to be effective and craft and enact useful legislation is your motivating concern.

Sir, Americans need you now more than ever. Not to craft and enact legislation but to remain vigil and in open opposition to defeat unconstitutional and tyrannical legislation like H.R. 1388.

If a strong and vocal opposition can’t be maintained in the House and the Senate during these difficult and troubling times where the majority seems to favor socialist solutions then our way of life, along with our liberties and values that once made this nation the shining example of people and government throughout the world, will be lost forever.

America needs you Senator Martinez, it needs you to safeguard America and ensure its survival and it needs you to help defeat H.R. 1388, America desperately needs you to support H.R. 833 to create congressional oversight and auditing provisions of the Federal Reserve.

These are the House of Representatives version of these Bills and both warrant the citizen’s representatives representing the citizens and not the corporate interests fighting for and against these bills or the desire on behalf of too many representatives to create more government for the sake of government itself.

Thank you in advance for your consideration in regards to these vital matters.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Constituent & Citizen

………………………………………………..
Below is a response to the recent comments I received from you:

Dear Mr. XXXXXX

Thank you for contacting me regarding serving America. I appreciate hearing from you and would like to take this opportunity to respond.

On September 12, 2008, Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA) introduced the Serve America Act (S.3487). This legislation establishes a commission to study ways in which the federal government and businesses can more effectively collaborate with nonprofit and philanthropic organizations to address pressing national and local challenges. S.3487 also expands the ServeAmerica Corps, provides college tax credit to students, awards states and nonprofit organizations grants, and gives tax incentives to businesses who's employees commit to serve. The Serve America Act has been referred to the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions. Although I do not serve on this committee, I will be sure to keep your support in mind should the Senate consider this legislation.

Like you, I believe it is imperative for Congress to work together to produce legislation that address the growing need for volunteering. Community service provides invaluable support for our nation, and it is even more important that Americans continue down the paths that lead to a lifetime of service and improved opportunities. I will continue to work hard to ensure that Americans have the resources available to them in order to succeed.

Again, thank you for sharing your views with me. If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. In addition, for more information about issues and activities important to Florida, please sign up for my weekly newsletter at martinez.senate.gov....

Sincerely,

Mel Martinez
United States Senator

**Note: PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL. If you would like to reply to this message, please contact me through my website at martinez.senate.gov....

As you can see, what I am begging him not to do, he is assuring me that he will do exactly what I didn't and don't want him to do, because I requested it!

I have many other examples of both Democratic Congressmen and Republican Congressmen writing back to me on other issues where they cheerfully inform me they are on my side, representing me and will do because I asked, precisely what I in fact asked them not to do.

Houston we have a problem!

For Windoze this is true. (Viruses, Worms and Trojans "live" in general in the M$-domain.) But it's quite hard to implement a UNIX virus which crashes the OS. This is because:

  • There is no "standart installation", which means it most likely will have to be compiled for each traget machine.
  • No serious user is logged in as root, except for administrative works. So you have to get root-rights before compromising binaries and keep that rights afterwards, so that the virus can fulfill its job.

And windoze has enough security flaws itself (call 'em features). I will show you one of them:

  • Backup "c:\windows\system32\logon.scr" somewhere save.
  • copy "c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe" to "c:\windows\system32\logon.scr"
  • log off and wait until the screensaver shows up.
  • OOOOOOH no screensaver but the commandline appears. And you are not logged in? From that commandline you can call "explorer" for example. Or you can just try to connect to another win-pc by typing its IP-address (eg. "192.168.0.1") and you most likely will not need to enter a password (even if set).

Easy hugh.
That's all I have to say about M$-secutrity.
