The Ability to realize that....people are people.

I'm currently watching 'Hardball with Chris Matthew' on MSNBC.

Guests are Bill Cosby and Dr. Alvin Poussant.

The point of the 'rant' is about the perception of the current President of the USA....as being 'black'.

Of course, educated people know that President Obama had a 'white' mother, and a 'black' father.....

I would not like to think that this is even a subject for dispute, in this day and age!!!

My gosh!!! There are many, many examples of lovely mixing of the so-called 'races'!!!!

Why react with hate??

Is it built into our DNA?

Its kinda funny, but we here at ATS either love or hate the man, Obama , but not one time did I hear his color brought into it,

People are people so how can it be, you and I could get along so horribly...

Hmm... I am not sure we will ever get out of this one... It will be solved the day that personal holographic sight re-interpreters replace everyone's eyes. Then people will have the ability to see others as they want to. I would program every third woman to look like Eva Green.....Whoo boy she is hot.

We are conditioned to hate and avoid "otherness" (regardless of its superficial nature).

In part there are survival aspects, but it is subtly reinforced. Divide and conquer. If we can be promoted into hating others (for any reason), we are conquered.

I hope we find a solution - well... I think I have found a solution, and it is within my book.

Have not read into your books....but, I will say that your comment seems profound.

My meaning is....we, as a species, tend to react. It is in our DNA, it seems...or, perhaps, is is part of our socialization, as we grow up.

I'll stick to the genetic part....the socialization comes in to it also.

Imagine, with no modern trappings, you and your 'tribe' must fend for yourselves. It is 'EAT', or get eaten.

THIS is the bias that, whether through what Parents teach, or however it comes to be....Humans need to get over it!!!

I have no other way to explain it.

Of course, the issue of 'color' wasn't raised whenever someone criticsized GWB, either...

I guess he (GWB) was poked at, made fun of, because of his (affected) Texas accent......

Old news, now.

WE, as a Nation, have a prominent leader, duly elected, this time, who happens to be of mixed race.

AND I say this with all sincerity, we are ALL of mixed race...unless you are kidding yourselves!!!

MY family, my 'heritage' before the US, is from Ireland. Well, history is pretty brutal when it comes to what is known about the events there.

I don't think I need to explain anymore....intelligent people will get it.

TPTB want you to hate ANY OTHER GROUP, so long as it isn't the wealthy.

(And by wealthy, I don't mean the guy down the street who has made a couple million from the business that he founded)

Being on TV, or the Radio...since you expect to have an 'audience'....you feel you have some 'control'...

Amen to that.. I have never seen a hateful comment about his color either. Usually it involved .. corruption .. elitism, serving banks, wasting our money, arrogance and so on and so forth.

Yup, and I suppose that while Obama IS Black, we cannot technically say they are identical twins..... but he did have a white mother, and Barbara is as white as they come..

Am I correct in assuming that you are equating President Obama with Fmr. President Bush in some way?

Because, if this is your ploy, then this thread needs to be moved to another category....not sure ATS has one for that, yet. Don't even know what to call it.

I'd like this thread to continue to explore how this man's mixed heritage "colors" other's reactions.

Depends on your history as a white person i suppose, if blacks have commited plenty of crimes against you, you will always hate blacks. Just because people are black does not mean you cannot hate them, this is just a useless argument.
