Full Metal Jacket was among the best movie released that decade.

The Princess Bride still ranks as one of my favorites.

Also:

Ordinary People

Raging Bull (how could I forget that gem?)

The King of Comedy

After Hours

Purple Rose of Cairo

Broadway Danny Rose

Radio Days

Zelig

Crimes and Misdemeanors (a must see)

thing fish, I notice you like John Hughes movies. I was not a very big fan of his, but some of the earlier films were enjoyable.

Tootsie (Dustin Hoffman gave one of his best performances in that movie.)

It is hard to find really good movies in that decade. Hollywood started the blockbuster hit, and that is what they seemed to release.

Two by Blake Edwards:

S.O.B.

Victor, Victoria

Both star the wonderful Julie Andrews, and she appears like she has never before in S.O.B. She has the immortal line: "I'm going to show my boobies!" in that film. The late, great Robert Preston also appears in both those movies.

Blue Thunder for you action fans. That movie inspired three TV series: "Blue Thunder", "Airwolf", and "Riptide".
