A lack of long-term planning for UK defence supplies may lead the armed forces to rely on foreign firms for equipment, industry chiefs have warned.

The Defence Industries Council told a cross-party panel of MPs there was "huge concern" procurement would not meet the needs of British troops.

We are already having to rely on foreign firms for out defence equipment, we have no real aircraft industry in this country that can build an fighter from start to finish without having to import some of it's components from Europe or the US, they were reputedly considering to be shutting down one of the last tank manufacturing factories in this country down. So what is this country supposed to do if we end up in a similar situation to WW2 where Europe is invaded and we start losing aircraft or tanks at a rapid rate of knots?
