I found this article, Stella Rimington was head of MI5;

uk.news.yahoo.com...

Very interesting, given the source. If anyone knows what the UK Government have been doing, it is her!

To tell you the truth, this does not surprise me. Terrorism was just a new enemy to fight for TPTB. They had the nazi's in the 40's and the Commies in the 70;s so it's no surprise that they would have created some other enemy to go ahead and war with in order to further their own agenda.

Governments always need something to fight against, or else the military spending and programs have no real purpose. When they refuse to divulge information at the risk of deterring National Security they can really do anything without having to account for they're actions.

Former MI5 head Dame Stella Rimington has claimed the Government had exploited people's fear of terrorism to restrict civil liberties.

In an outspoken interview she said ministers risked handing a victory to terrorists by making people "live in fear and under a police state".

Well DUH...

No but seriously, it's good that Stella Rimington is speaking out about this. And you would assume she would be in a position to know just how bad things are.

It's just a shame nobody on her kind of level has the balls to ask publically WHY these rights are being curtailed, as in, what does the Government have in store for us? Of course, any such question would be dismissed with some lame are response, but the question being in the public view will be enough to make some of the flock ask themselves why.

in 1984, one of the goals of the ruling party was to ensure that there was always a perpetual war going on...

This perpetual war gave the people something to rally behind, and helped them control the masses...

The Ministry of Peace was put in place to monitor this "war", and help the Ministry of Truth spew propaganda toward the unthinking masses... To question the party, or the motives of the war, or independent thought was considered a "Thought crime" and was punishable by torture via the "Ministry of Love"...

Orwell was actually on to something eh?
