Wow . . . I guess all this talk of economic stimulus and the bickering back and forth between the Democrats and Republicans really has given us some measure of benefit, but just not quite as generous as what our elected officials have given to their cronies in the financial sector.

Q: What are some of the tax breaks in the bill?

A: It includes Obama's signature "Making Work Pay" tax credit for 95 percent of workers, though negotiators agreed to trim the credit to $400 a year instead of $500 — or $800 for married couples, cut from Obama's original proposal of $1,000. It would begin showing up in most workers' paychecks in June as an extra $13 a week in take-home pay, falling to about $8 a week next January.

Meltdown 101 - Highlights of economic stimulus plan

That's a whole $676 a year.

I wonder if they'll be sending me a subpoena to appear before congress to make sure I didn't use my share to buy jets, take lavish vacations or float myself some self-aggrandizing multi-million dollar bonus?

...And when we start receiving the dividend checks from Wall Street, from TARP, and Bank bailouts, we'll be rollin' in high cotton.

But wait, the interest that we'll have to absorb from the banks when we borrow our money, to make ends meet...puts me in the hole. Unless, that interest is deductible, nah, I'll still be in the hole.

Where is my bailout, again? Payback is a bitch, a buttocks biting bitch.

Good catch GP,

It really gotten so silly hasn't it??

As if that token money is really going to help the people who need the help the most.

I'll bet that the money they are "giving" us has to be claimed yet again when tax time comes next year.

WTF is wrong with these people? I am sick to my stomache, they might as well just bend us over, and give it to us without lube, a reach around, or even a little wink. Just take it all! you rapists!! Im sick of this crap. I really hope our nation tanks! I really do! I want them to lose everything they have!!! Cause we as the lower class people have already been losing out on everything! They are an insult to the human race and they need to be dealt with. No more sitting them down and asing them questions, Im talking about a good old fashioned Ass Whoopin!

Wow, oh, wow!!!!! A whole $13 a week? Y. y. .you mean I get to keep all that?? Oh what ever shall I do with my new found riches. But better spend it fast cause we get knocked down to $8 after January. I was sooooo wrong for doubting washinton.
Well now obama can brag that he kept his promise to the middle class. Scarry part is we've still got four years to go with obama the destroyer.

Worst part about it is my yearly raise is usually a bit more than that and I get it every year at least up to this year. That is just a one time deal it's about as stupid as raising the minimum wage by .05 an hour.

If it's gonna be done do it right or not at all. It's more of a here you go and shut up we did what you asked. Sure for someone living in poverty every penny helps but the majority will respond to it just like most of the responses in this thread. Chances are it will offend people more than help them.

Do the self-employed get the usual jack squat? I hate all the bail outs and I hated the idiotic $600 checks we got from dubya. I am an American. My country is in debt. Pay back the debt.

I'm confused again. I thought many people were already getting some type of tax credits. There's the earned income credit.....?

This sounds more like our 'little share' of interest or the 'kick-back'. They still haven't mentioned about those who 'aren't working' due to losing their jobs or who are now collecting unemployment, disability or SSI have they?

Atleast I received a cost of "giving" increase this year on SSDI.

Of course I have lost about $2,000 every quarter on my 401k also.

Anyone one else feel like they're working for a pimp or a casino?

Our economy appears to be manic bipolar.

I don't like it when government give anyone money - banks or individuals (with some exceptions of course). They should just take as little as possible from anyone who is producing wealth. At some point in time someone is going to have to pay for these bank bailouts, tax credits and everything else they are spending all this money on. Perhaps the government should lead by example and try to balance their budget without a loan, if the government just borrows and spends without any real plan to pay back the debt it's no surprise people follow their example. This kind of mentality caused the crisis.

You know the funny thing my hub hates Mcyd's and asked why on earth so many people would be eating there... I replied well that's an easy one hunny it the Happy Meals

But on topic: That VERY small amount of money isn't going to even come close to covering the inflation heading our way. If there is anyway you can cut corners now and get the things you really need to get by; now is the time to do it.

so americans get $400 a year and congress got $4000 a year raise in 2009. Wonderful. Thank you Obama

Pfft!!!! That 13 bucks a week wont even cover the cost of feeding a starving family in a 3rd world country for one week!!

Obama needs to either put himself in the shoes of the common folk, or resign. This is turning out to be just another hood ornament who caters to fat cat rich boy insiders and huge corporations.

He either sends us all a fat check for a good 10 grand or more or forget it.

Cheers!!!!

Whats so funny about all of this is when you really look at just how stupid our government is. The whole summation of debt can be explained like this:

The Fed sells our printed money to our government for the actual value + Interest. So BEFORE they use that money to stimulate anything its already a debt.

Fed Printed Dollar = 1$ + Interest
Hypothetical Congressionaly Printed Dollar = 1$

thirteen whole dollars every week? gee whatever will we do with all that?

What I want to know is: when they say $800 for married couples, does that include couples where one is working and the other is unemployed?
At least under W we got cash for both of us.
