Ok, so I'll start by saying that I in no way believe or disbelieve the Elvis theories. This post is not about whether or not he is alive or dead.

I saw an article on boing boing linking to this video:

Elvis sightings - Bill Bixby 1992

The post stated the following:

Boing Boing reader J. Howe says, "The US Copyright office has an FAQ on protecting an Elvis sighting."

www.boingboing.net...

I laughed at this, but couldn`t help but head over to the copyright website and see for myself if this was true. Well, it is.

www.copyright.gov...

What Does Copyright Protect? •
• Can I copyright my website?
• Can I copyright my domain name?
• How do I protect my recipe?
• Can I copyright the name of my band?
• How do I copyright a name, title, slogan or logo?
• How do I protect my idea?
• Does my work have to be published to be protected?
• Can I register a diary I found in my grandmother's attic?
• How do I protect my sighting of Elvis? «----------------
• Does copyright protect architecture?
• Can I get a star named after me and claim copyright to it?

I find this humourous. Is this simply because of volume? No other celebrity is mentioned, is that because Elvis`s death is the subject of more speculation than any other?

Very odd.

What an interesting find! Who would have thought it occurs often enough to merit special mention?

Thank you as that was fun to read!

If it made it into a FAQ, then you know they were asked that question a million times.

I suppose they must have been inundated.

Strange there isn't one for UFO sightings, then.

I remember when that special on Elvis aired. Bill Bixby actually went to the camera and begged Elvis to come forward. There was a special number to call, and I don't know if Mr Bixby was serious or just in it for the paycheck. There were witnesses who had seen Elvis, and other conspiracy theories as to why he faked his death.

Remember, this was the time of Geraldo Rivera's immortal shows "Al Capone's Vault" and "Satanists in America" (which was aired on NBC to try and dim the premiere of ABC's "Rosanne").
